I felt motivated to complete my Splinterlands artwork today! Here’s the final result.
My artwork was inspired by Splinterland's Helheim Demon after seeing @moeenali post about it.
He mentioned it being a rare card, so I figured it must have unique qualities or power. I thought it would be a good challenge to work on something significant in the game, so I chose it as the reference for my artwork.
In terms of my presentation style, I tend to turn characters into mini versions of themselves. I think it adds a weirdly interesting twist. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it looks funny, lol. I thought giving this one a try might lead to something interesting, so I went for it.
I started with a rough sketch on paper, gauging the proportions I wanted for the character. Once I was happy with it, I moved to Photoshop to draw the outlines and add details. I adjusted the pen and brush settings to simulate hand pressure, which worked well in this case.
The coloring was quite simple, using just a few colors, and I added lighter and darker shades to highlight bright and dark areas of the character.
The part I enjoyed most was coloring the horns. In this exercise, I learned more about using "variety of opacity levels" to add depth. I think this method works well for anything with a metallic surface.
