Facebook or Meta as you want to call it, has been the first corporation to announce that it will start its race for the domain of the metaverse, where it will create infinite possibilities for everyone, something like what the movie Ready Player One shows and where reality and fiction come together.
But the competition for the metaverse on Microsoft's side is not taking the same course as Meta, but rather will focus on other aspects, such as work productivity. Through the creation of "digital twins", users will be able to meet and share digital spaces to work, hold virtual meetings, and socialize. It will all be possible because Mesh will be integrated into Teams in the first half of 2022. And just like Facebook's metaverse, Microsoft's project can be enjoyed from any device, although VR glasses offer a greater experience.
Mesh is a mixed reality platform that was launched in March this year that allows users in different parts of the world to join together in a virtual space, but with the integration of Teams, it is expected to take Mesh much further. In addition to 3D virtual avatars, Teams offers all the productivity tools that have been much needed during the pandemic: chat, video calls, calls, and access to collaborative files via Office 365.
Race for Technological Supremacy
This growing interest in the metaverse is the same as the growing interest in social networks in the last decade, where large conglomerates fought for supremacy in better social networks, I remember when many new features came out for Snapchat as animated filters, facebook immediately copied everything for their applications like instagram and facebook.
That same race to achieve better results in less time is what we are seeing with the announcement of microsoft and its incursion into the metaverse. But in this race, there are many participants with a lot of money invested such as Epic Games, as well as other decentralized competitors.
Of course, you have to take into account the development capabilities that each competitor has to know who will be ahead, and although Microsoft's approach to the metaverse is somewhat different, they have the platform necessary to succeed, as well as the software and hardware to bring the metaverse to life. So Microsoft could take the lead in less time than Meta.
But whoever starts with the first sample of the metaverse, one thing we are sure of is that the technological development does not stop and that this development comes hand in hand with cryptocurrencies as it is one of the fundamental pillars, Meta already understands this and that is why they are against everything to launch their cryptocurrency.
In addition, it is also very possible that we will see more competitors in the game such as google or amazon, who also have the software and hardware to power their metaverse. As I mentioned the new technology race will be for the metaverse and the players are already showing up.
