The Sandbox Alpha: The game begins!

Ten months have passed since, at the beginning of my explorations in the crypto-verse, I wrote for the first time about The Sandbox, a metaverse born on the Ethereum blockchain that in the last few months is on the crest of the wave.

Before I tell you about the launch of The Sandbox Alpha, I would like to make a little mention of my personal experience. I purchased my first (and unfortunately only) two Land on the platform on 11th December 2020. At that time, the platform's native token, SAND, was priced at $0.05 while ETH (required for transaction fees) was at $544. The Premium Land which, in what was the last pre-sale, included 5 Smurfs NFTs, cost me 2100SAND ($105, at the time) plus 0.0098ETH for the gas fee ($5.33). I paid for the second Land (not premium) just over 900SAND (about $ 45) and a fee of 0.012ETH ($ 6.53). At today's prices, from a quick calculation on etherscan.io, I would have spent just over $ 13.000, almost 80 times more. The latest offers received (not that I have put the LANDs up for sale, but they arrive anyway), were respectively 1.6 and 1.55WETH.

At current ETH prices, accepting the two offers could make me just over $13.000 (funny to note that the offers almost exactly reflect the price I would have paid at the time if SAND and ETH had had current prices). Without considering the five Smurfs NFTs which overall to date have an estimated value of about 0.25ETH.

This too long introduction was only intended to highlight how much, in less than a year, The Sandbox has grown (in value as well as in the number of users) and consequently how much the announcement of the alpha version will be decisive for its future.

The Sandbox Alpha will be the game's first play-to-earn event that will allow players to visit the metaverse through 18 experiences created by different teams of developers. The doors of The Sandbox will open at 13.00 UTC on November 29th and will remain open until December 20th. Everyone can participate, but only explorers who will have a particular NFT, the Alpha Pass, will be able to earn from this experience. Those with the Pass, in fact, by completing the missions of the Alpha Season, will earn up to $1000 in SAND and up to three NFTs created especially for the occasion. On the other hand, those who do not have the Pass will still be able to access three experiences as well as the Alpha HUB, a multiplayer experience that will allow them to view locations and missions, as well as get in touch with other members of the community.

There are **three ways to get an Alpha Pass:

  • Owners of one or more LANDs will be able to register from 22 to 28 November at the Alpha Pass Raffle, which gives the possibility to win one of the 1000 Passes reserved for this category. Of course, those with more LANDs will also have a better chance of receiving this NFT.
  • Anyone with a Sandbox account will take part in daily social contests organized by the team. Every week and for three weeks starting November 29, 750 Alpha Passes will be distributed in this mode. To not miss the draws, follow the game's social accounts!
  • If some lucky winners decide to resell it, Alpha Passes can be purchased on OpenSea**. Be careful, though, not to buy them after December 20th as the Alpha Season will be over at that point!

All participants in the lottery, entering The Sandbox after the draw, will be greeted by a pop-up that will inform them of whether or not they have won the Pass. To redeem the Alpha Pass you will need some ETH for the gas fees. From November 29 it will finally be possible to experience the game on The Sandbox. If reality were to respect or even exceed the already high expectations that revolve around this metaverse, the value of LANDs and token could reach really important levels. Do you think it is too late to buy a LAND in this game? Probably not, if you consider that more "peripheral" plots on OpenSea are on sale for about 0.6ETH. Even without LAND, it is certainly not too late to approach this metaverse which, for both content creators and gamers, is bound to give great satisfaction.

Sono passati dieci mesi da quando, agli inizi delle mie esplorazioni nel crypto-verso, ho scritto per la prima volta di The Sandbox, un metaverso nato su blockchain Ethereum che negli ultimi mesi sta facendo molto parlare di se.

Prima di parlarvi del lancio di The Sandbox Alpha, vorrei fare un piccolo accenno alla mia esperienza personale. Ho acquistato le mie prime (e purtroppo uniche) due Land sulla piattaforma l’11 dicembre 2020. Allora il token nativo della piattaforma, SAND, era quotato $0.05 mentre ETH (necessario all’acquisto per le fee di transazione) $544. La Land premium che, in quella che è stata l’ultima pre-sale, comprendeva ben 5 NFT dei Puffi, mi è costata 2100SAND ($105, al tempo) più 0.0098ETH per le gas fee ($5,33). La seconda Land, non premium, poco più di 900SAND (circa $45) e una fee di 0.012ETH ($6,53). Ai prezzi odierni, da un rapido calcolo fatto su etherscan.io, avrei speso poco più di $13000, quasi 80 volte di più. Le ultime offerte ricevute (non che abbia messo in vendita le Land, ma arrivano ugualmente), sono state rispettivamente di 1.6 e 1.55WETH.

Ai prezzi correnti di ETH, accettando le due offerte potrei incassare poco più di $13000 (buffo notare come le offerte rispecchino quasi esattamente il prezzo che avrei pagato al tempo se SAND e ETH avessero avuto le quotazioni attuali). Il tutto senza considerare i cinque NFT dei Puffi che complessivamente ad oggi hanno un valore stimato di circa 0.25ETH. Trovate tutto spiegato dettagliatamente in un mio precedente articolo.

Questa introduzione fin troppo lunga, aveva il solo scopo di mettere in evidenza quanto, in meno di un anno, The Sandbox sia cresciuto (in valore oltre che nel numero di utenti) e conseguentemente quanto l’annuncio della versione alpha sarà determinante per il suo futuro.

The Sandbox Alpha sarà il primo evento play-to-earn del gioco che permetterà ai giocatori di visitare il metaverso attraverso 18 experiences create da diversi team di sviluppatori. Le porte di The Sandbox apriranno alle 13.00 UTC del 29 novembre e resteranno aperte fino al 20 dicembre. Tutti potranno partecipare, ma solo gli esploratori in possesso di un particolare NFT, l’Alpha Pass, potranno guadagnare da questa esperienza. Chi sarà in possesso del Pass, infatti, completando gli obiettivi della Stagione Alpha, potrà guadagnare fino a $1000 in SAND e fino a tre NFT creati apposta per l’occasione. Chi, invece, non sarà in possesso del Pass potrà accedere comunque a tre experiences oltre che all’Alpha HUB, un’esperienza multiplayer che permetterà di visionare ambientazioni e missioni, oltre che di entrare in contatto con altri membri della community.

Ci sono **tre modi per aggiudicarsi un Alpha Pass:

  • I possessori di una o più LAND potranno registrarsi a partire dal 22 e fino al 28 novembre all’Alpha Pass Raffle, con la quale potranno vincere uno del 1000 Pass riservati a questa categoria. Naturalmente chi ha più LAND avrà anche maggiori possibilità di ricevere questo ambito NFT.
  • Chiunque abbia un account The Sandbox potrà partecipare a dei concorsi social quotidiani** organizzati dal team. Ogni settimana e per tre settimane a partire dal 29 novembre verranno distribuiti 750 Alpha Pass con questa modalità. Per non perdervi le estrazioni, seguite gli account social del gioco!
  • Se i fortunati vincitori del Pass decideranno di rivenderlo, sarà possibile acquistare gli Alpha Pass su OpenSea. Fate attenzione, però, a non acquistarli oltre il 20 dicembre perché la Stagione Alpha a quel punto sarà terminata!

Tutti i partecipanti alla lotteria, entrando su The Sandbox dopo l’estrazione, verranno accolti da un pop-up che li informerà sulla vincita o meno del Pass. Per riscattare l’Alpha Pass avrete bisogno di un po’ di ETH per le gas fee.

Dal 29 novembre sarà finalmente possibile sperimentare il gioco su The Sandbox. Se la realtà dovesse rispettare o addirittura superare le già alte aspettative che ruotano intorno a questo metaverso, il valore delle LAND e del token potrebbero raggiungere livelli davvero importanti. Pensate sia ormai troppo tardi per acquistare una LAND in questo gioco? Probabilmente no, se considerate che su OpenSea appezzamenti più “periferici” sono in vendita a circa 0.6ETH. Anche senza LAND, non è di certo troppo tardi per approcciarsi a questo metaverso che, sia per i creatori di contenuti che per i giocatori, è destinato a dare grandi soddisfazioni.
