One of the great powers of hive is its people and its communities. Recently I have started exploring more into the communities and I try to learn more about them, get to know more users and find more inspiration in a variety of fields.

Whatever you do, whatever you dream of, whatever you look for - you can surely find it here! Art, Crypto, Drawing, Travel, Music, Games, Fitness, STEM ... and and and ..

But let's get to the point.

The Rookie Mistake

I saw a lovely community a few days ago - Urban Exploration :)
As I always love to explore my city I thought .. why not joining?
And I did!

But ALAS!

I made a very rookie mistake - I had not checked thoroughly what the community was about .. so I just wrote about me exploring my city streets.. while the community is about ...

Urban exploration - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Urban_exploration

Urban exploration is the exploration of manmade structures, usually abandoned ruins or hidden components of the manmade environment.

I was totally off topic!

I am lucky because one of the community admins @slobberchops, came by my post and informed me about my content.

That taught me a great lesson but also .. gave me an idea which I will share in the near future.

A chance to learn & educate

In the meantime allow me to share with you some tips to follow when you are thinking of joining a new community.

What is a community on hive?

Think of it as a small group of friends and acquaintances who share a common interest. The content can have various topics, but all of them are connected in a way. To post in a community, you need to be subscribed and sometimes you need to use a specific tag.

Let's see an example (screen shot from hive.blog > link https://hive.blog/trending/hive-120586)

You can click on 'subscribe' to become a member and 'new post' to post
On the right side you see the description, the number of subscribers and active posts (posts that are less than 7 days old) and below you can see all the administrators & moderators.

Where can you find communities?

You can check out the first page of hive.blog where you will find the most active & trending communities. The first one is @leofinance :) (More about this later)

https://hive.blog/

Click on the community you wish to check it out!

You can also use the search button to search for a keyword (i.e. art, crypto etc)

Before you make a post

What I suggest is that you make a thorough visit to the community before deciding to post. Check out the pinned posts, the announcements but also the new posts. Interact with the other community members, feel free to ask any questions if you think of them!

Check out if there are any guidelines for your posts, like to use a special hashtag or to have certain limitation when it comes to posting.

Of course all quality guidelines & writing etiquette are valid for all your posts!

After you post ..

Check out other new posts in the community or on hive and interact with the users. If someone replies to you, try to respond as soon as possible. Let the post be alive and to create its path to the people interested in what you are writing about!

Extra - some communities have their own front end!

Some of the communities have their own front end! One of these communities is @leofinance and you can check their front end here

https://leofinance.io/

There are little extra incentives when the users use the front end platform to post, to comment, to upvote :)

Extra Extra ...

Some communities have their own token! But more about that in a next post :)

I would like to thank @slobberchops for giving me the idea for this post and for giving me an extra reason to continue shaping my idea (more about this soon)

Which are your favorite communities?

Let me know below what are your most used communities and also share with us why!

Thank you for visiting!
