It was probably last summer, when I was keep hearing UMA being mentioned here and there, bun mostly from my little brother @pvmihalache. As two minds are better than one, I must say that we are quite often share our discoveries, promising projects and potential blockchain games, on regular basis, as we got different methods and skillsets. I am exploring more towards the blockchain game side, with some exotic networks, being quite fine on Hive blockchain, Tron or Polkadot. My brother is more oriented towards the content creration, more often supporting new emergent projects, especially on Ethereum and BCH.

But, for now, let's go back to UMA. To introduce them, UMA is (insert whatever you know about them here). Just kidding, so UMA is short for Universal Market Access and it is a very knowledgeable team of experts, helping any project to build secure decentralized financial products. Now, decentralized financial products, this is a bit word, including some cryptic stuff such as Synthetic asset, Yield dollar, KPI Options, Range Tokens, Success tokens. All these products, 82 of them until now, are related to many emergent and well-known projects too, like Sushi, Harvest Finance, Crypto-Punks and many others. See more about this here

I am rambling again, so back to my story. I know exactly, I like to think, when I learn about UMA, as my brother was like, join the Discord, and start to learn about it. He was like, look, there is a meeting right now, join us and listen. That meeting, I even learn about POAPs, and I got one. Funny thing, until then I was thinking that POAPs are something like NFTs on ETH, and while I got some, from events ranging all the way back to 2020, I did not knew much about. So, the POAP I am talking about is dated 27th of July, SuperUMAns Community Call. Now, while I know stuff about crypto, my knowledge is quite focused on specific subjects and blockchains, and ETH is not one of them, as I am a bit averse just because the fees skyrocketed. Add to this that I have only used Discord to play World of Warcraft raids, and not related to crypto, and you can see why my first meetings I was completely out of my depth. I start to look at some videos, to read about it, to connect to some projects (I admit it, I like Volatility - VOL, for example) and to improve myself. My fist contact with UMA was during their UMA DAO Integrations Option, which finished with a great party on 30 Sep 2021.

Which will take me to their SuperUMAns Initiative (like the Avengers). What is this, you may ask? SuperUmans are working together to help increase the value of the KPI Options & increase UMA adoption. If I am to quote them, then:

''SuperUMAns are the community’s ninja troops. They know how powerful UMA is, the kinds of things that can be done with UMA, and they are determined to spread the word. If you find yourself reading this, you probably already have your own inner superUMAn- you may just not know it yet.''

In order to become one, you may need to be present, and offer your unique set of skills. Not only programmers are needed, as there are quite few teams ready to adopt you on UMA Discord. We have a campaign team, a content team, an onboarding team, an education team, an operation team and even a social media one (my favourite, shhh, don't tell no one about this). So here I am, being active on the Social Media Team and occasionally trying to go out of my comfort zone creating some content for the content team. I must say that out of almost 40 projects that I am involved right now, the UMA collective is by far the most welcoming and the most supporting I ever met. If you have enough enthusiasm and some warm feeling towards crypto, this is a place where you want to be. As a writer, content creator, or if you have leadership or connecting people skills, this is where you want to be. You are thinking about this? Join us on Discord and ask about being a SuperUMAn. Somebody will help, I am sure of that!

One of the most interesting experiences that I had there was supporting a part of the UMA team creating the Across Protocol. Well, I did not do any of the IT stuff, as my IT knowledge is still stuck somewhere in the '90s, but I have tried to suport them, in any way I could, mostly writing about and sharing the knowledge, and finding more about the ETH layer 2 rollups. If you don't know what this is, Across Protocol is a bridge sending almost instantly assets between layer 2 rollups and Ethereum mainnet, is a secure, less expensive, innovative way. Before this one, you needed to wait on average one week before the funds were confirmed in a similar transaction. Another event that I enjoyed greatly was the POAPathon, and I have already wrote about this one in here. A mix between POAP and Hackaton, ending today, this was a new way to challenge myself, and do my first POAP ever.

And even if I enjoy being rewarded for my efforts, my greatest satisfaction is that I can learn new things, in a secure, fun environment, feeling that I am supported by so many people, some much more better at this than I am. Go, go, go SuperUMANS!

All the best, George
