Many discuss the fact that the amount of debt is unsustainable. That is because they look at the raw number and are shocked. This is not accurate. Reducing the debt by 25% does not make us 25% better off.
In this video I discuss how the problem is not the amount of debt. That is not particularly relevant. What is the issue is the collateral backing the debt. Here is where we see the problem arise.
