This month's (September, I'm a bit late on writing this post!) Humble Bundle Subscription drop is a bit of a mixed bag, but as always there is more than enough in there that justifies the low subscription fee... the only problem is that it makes my Steam backlog longer and longer... and I don't think that I'm going to finish Baldur's Gate 3 in the next day or two!
Headlining the drop is Tiny Tina's Wonderlands... the complete Chaotic Great Edition! I'm a bit of an on and off again Borderlands person... I love the wacky universe and writing, and I love the art style... but I keep getting turned off by the gameplay loop. Perhaps when I can play with my kids, it might be more of a better family game! After all, there are 4 characters, and we have 4 people in our family... if I can convince my wife to play! But... I have had Tiny Tina (the base game) on my wishlist for ages... but I've held off getting it, because I know how I am with the Borderlands games.. I will sort of play them, and then at some point I lose interest in the continual loot grinding... but this complete edition worth 120 AUD is being dropped to me for the humble subscription price of about 15 AUD! Sure, it is also on sale on Steam... but it is still at 40 AUD!
Deceive Inc is an interesting looking game... cool retro art style that reminds me of some great games of my youth... but the multiplayer part is a big turn off... there are so many good games that just get sunk by crappy online players... and when that is the whole premise of the game mechanics, well it just sucks. And judging by the Steam reviews... well, that seems to have been the case. Perhaps there is a chance with the private lobbies?
The Forgotten City is a bit of an expected one that has really piqued my interest! I had thought that it would just be another action sort of game... but there seems to be a time-travel puzzle/mystery loop instead! Set in the Roman times... hmmm, I'm keeping this one for sure! Some pretty overwhelmingly positive reviews as well! I wonder why I hadn't heard of this...
Aces and Adventures is another game that has been on wishlist for a while (I've mostly learnt my lesson and avoided buying games unless I really really really want something immediately! Pretty often, they will drop on Humble Bundle... ). Nice art style, with a deck-building RPG mechanic based around poker hands... sounds cool! Great travel type game for the plane or the bus... straight onto the Steam Deck for this one!
Patch Quest... I wouldn't ordinarily buy this, but after looking at the store page... it does look genuinely interesting. Again, it does seem like a decent travel game for the Steam Deck... I'll keep it, and try it out. After all, the description of Binding of Issac meets Pokemon is pretty intriguing!
Foretales... wow, another game in the bundle with a pretty cool art style! An adventure game where the story is told via cards... I'm pretty sure that this has ALSO been sitting on Steam wishlist for a while! Again, it looks like the perfect Deck Game... easy on the hardware, easy on the eyes, simple enough gameplay... and with a definite narrative arc and end point!
Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus is one of the FMV games from Wales Interactive... I sort of like their games, but their replayability is next to nil... so, I never really have much desire to find the different endings. I already finished this game, after I purchased the complete Wales Interactive collection on another Humble Bundle games bundle. So, this will be going to the store... when I get it running again.
Autonauts vs Piratebots... ummmmm... I don't even know what to say about this. Suffice to say that I wouldn't have gotten this myself... but I'm going to keep it and try it out... see if this is an indie gem, or an amusing idea that doesn't quite develop up to its potential.
