Today I want to share with you a wonderful experience that is part of an ideal route for our beloved Wednesday Walk. It is about the trip I took with my family to La Guaricha Zoo, a green lung located in the heart of Maturín, Monagas state, in eastern Venezuela. This park is not only a place for family recreation, but also an educational park that connects adults and children with nature and local wildlife. Join me and I'll tell you a little about our experience.
This beautiful place aims to preserve animal species representative of the country while offering the community a space for recreation and environmental education. Its name comes from an indigenous word meaning "girl," and girls are indeed the stars of this place, as the park offers them the opportunity to interact with some of the animals.
As soon as we crossed the entrance, we noticed the peaceful and natural atmosphere that surrounds the park. The birdsong, the shade of the trees, and the clean air make you feel far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, even though we are actually in the heart of the city.
One of the reasons I recommend visiting La Guaricha, especially if you have children, is because here they can see species up close that they probably only know from books or videos. Having the opportunity to watch a capuchin monkey running around the park, a peacock strutting around, and being able to feed a donkey awakens in them a genuine curiosity about wildlife and, most importantly, a sense of respect and protection towards animals.
This type of contact with wildlife can make a profound difference in the ecological awareness of the youngest members of the family. This park represents a living, authentic, and memorable learning experience.
In addition to being a zoo, La Guaricha has a clear educational function. During our tour, we saw several explanatory signs that offer simple but valuable information about each species. There are also guides available throughout the park who answer questions and share interesting facts, making the tour much more enriching.
For my daughter, this visit was a real outdoor classroom, where she learned not only about animals but also about ecosystems, conservation, and biodiversity. Our favorite part was meeting the capybara, as it is one of her favorite animals.
The park also has playgrounds, duck ponds, picnic areas, and comfortable walking trails. It's ideal for spending a morning or afternoon with the family, disconnecting a little from the routine, and reconnecting with what's essential.
In times when most of our interactions are mediated by screens, spaces like La Guaricha become essential. They allow our children (and ourselves) to reconnect with nature, understand its value, and the importance of protecting it.
So if you are looking for a different, educational, and fun outing for a Wednesday or any day of the week, La Guaricha Zoo is an excellent option.

Parque Zoológico La Guaricha, una experiencia familiar inolvidable
¡Saludos amigos viajeros del mundo! Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una experiencia maravillosa que forma parte de una ruta ideal para nuestro querido espacio Wednesday Walk, se trata del paseo que hice con mi familia al Parque Zoológico La Guaricha, un pulmón verde ubicado en pleno corazón de Maturín, estado Monagas, en el oriente de Venezuela. Este parque no solo es un lugar para el esparcimiento familiar, sino también un parque educativo que conecta a grandes y chicos con la naturaleza y la fauna local. Acompáñenme y les comento un poco sobre nuestra experiencia.
Este bello lugar tienen como objetivo preservar especies animales representativas del país y, al mismo tiempo, ofrecer a la comunidad un espacio de recreación y educación ambiental. Su nombre proviene de una palabra indígena que significa "niña", y justamente los nuños son los protagonistas de este lugar ya que el parque les ofrece la oportunidad de estar en contacto con algunos animales.
Desde que cruzamos la entrada, nos dimos cuenta de la atmósfera tranquila y natural que envuelve el parque. El canto de las aves, la sombra de los árboles y el aire limpio hacen que uno se sienta lejos del bullicio citadino, aunque en realidad estemos en pleno centro de la ciudad.
Una de las razones por las que recomiendo visitar La Guaricha, especialmente si tienes niños, es porque aquí pueden ver de cerca especies que probablemente solo conocen por libros o videos. Tener la oportunidad de observar un mono capuchino corriendo por todo el parque, un pavo real contoneandose y poder alimentar a un burro, despierta en ellos una curiosidad genuina por la fauna y lo más importante, el sentido de respeto y protección hacia los animales.
Este tipo de contacto con la vida silvestre puede marcar una diferencia profunda en la conciencia ecológica de los más pequeños de la casa. Este parque representa un aprendizaje vivo, auténtico y memorable.
Además de ser un zoológico, La Guaricha tiene una función pedagógica clara. Durante nuestro recorrido, pudimos ver varios carteles explicativos que ofrecen información simple pero valiosa sobre cada especie. También hay guías disponibles por todo el parque, que responden preguntas y comparten datos curiosos, lo que hace que el paseo sea mucho más enriquecedor.
Para mi hija, esta visita fue una verdadera clase al aire libre, donde aprendió, no solo sobre animales, sino también sobre ecosistemas, conservación y biodiversidad. Nuestra parte favorita fue el encuentro con el Capybara ya que es uno de sus animados favoritos.
El parque también cuenta con áreas de juegos, lagunas con patos, espacios para picnic y caminerías cómodas para recorrerlo a pie. Es ideal para pasar una mañana o tarde en familia, desconectarse un poco de la rutina y reconectar con lo esencial.
En tiempos donde la mayoría de nuestras interacciones están mediadas por pantallas, espacios como La Guaricha se vuelven fundamentales. Permiten que nuestros hijos (y nosotros mismos) recuperemos ese vínculo con la naturaleza, comprendamos su valor y la importancia de protegerla.
Así que si están buscando un paseo diferente, educativo y divertido para un miércoles o cualquier día de la semana, el Parque zoológico La Guaricha es una excelente opción.
