The topic for the Community Engagement Challenge this week in Splinterland is the upcoming Yaba's Pickle Promo Card. This is why I consider buying a max Level Copy of it...
Old Card Values Going Down Again...
One of the brutal things about the Splinterlands Cards Market Cap Chart is that it has been a way harder downhill than the chart indicates as a ton of cards have been printed along the way. With the launch of Conclade Arcana, there was another flood of cards added to the supply and more promo cards are coming which includes the Yaba's Pickle card.
While something has been done about the creation of more DEC out of thin air as it was not sustainable and the SPS that is given out also was somewhat limited, cards remain the one thing where it feels like 'the sly is the limit' and they keep getting printed like there is no tomorrow.
With Survival Mode still in Pauze, the use case for the overprinted Chaos Legion Cards has gone down again while many saw their collection get dumped in Wild where earnings are crushed down. This caused prices of old cards to have gone down again closer to the burn value. If anything I would say the team (or DAO) should buy up these cheap cards and burn them for DEC to regulate the obvious oversupply and make the ecosystem more healthy again. No New players are going to come in when they see that old max level cards go for 2$ while new ones cost at least 10x more.
Why I Might Still Buy the Yaba's PickleI continue to be in a very conflicting state when it comes down to Splinterlands, having witnessed the crazy peak of 2021. I still see the great potential this game has even though I rarely have games that actually captivated this fun and don't really see the devs going in the direction to move away from making calls in favor of the economy which always come at the cost of fun & gameplay. This also shows in no new players coming in which is what we need the most.
Reasons Not To Buy The Yaba's PickleHowever, I can think of more reasons why not to buy this card...
-
Probably High Supply: The supply of this card virtually is unlimited as you can enter the raffle each day for 30 days for 200 DEC a card with the chance to earn a black foil.
-
Card Price Gap: Eventually especially if there is no massive inflow of new players, this card will suffer the same faith of dropping hard in value as more cards get printed and power creeped away.
-
I'm enjoying the Time off: With Survival Mode on Pauze, I haven't played any Manual Splinterlands battles and even forgot to enter my Brawls for the first time. So in it's current form, I enjoy not playing Splinterlands more and look up against the forced daily grind. I want to play the game at the most fun level at times that I have time and feel like it without missing out on rewards. This should be the #1 fix in order to actually get new players but it's not looking like that is ever coming.
-
Opportunity Cost: With the crypto market feeling pretty bullish, it's just far easier to find investment that have a way better return expectation compared to a Splinterlands Cards.
-
Limited Use Case: I already have quite a big collection of cards which makes each extra one having less and less use case since there are so many to choose from and based on the rules in most battles something else will be better.
Conclusion!I really want to buy this card and could easily do so but at the same time I also still lack the belief that it will be a good investment and that the day will come where there is another adoption wave which sends cards values way higher again.
