On todays ride, there were many tracks that were new to me. As always, when exploring new tracks, there are inevitable problems, such as signposting or paths blocked for one reason or another. I made mistakes, having to back track because I misread the map on my phone! ๐คฃ.
So, the plan was to head to Mannings Heath via St. Leonards forest.
This is where my first problem arose. I selected a footpath to connect with a bridalway. On entering the path, there was a swing gate, so far so good. But half way long, the path I came across a small cage gate. With a struggle, I managed to lift my bike up into the upright position to get through.
The problems continued further on with not one but two styles to climb over with the bike. ๐. See photo. I will avoid this path in the future!
With that setback behind me, I was now on a well-defined bridalway.
On this ride, there were some really lovely long tracks through some gorgeous forests and wooded areas. They seemed to go on forever! Probably because I was not familiar with these tracks. I took a tumble where the track suddenly turned sharp left and down, along a very rutted and loose surface. I ended up on my backside! Bruised but okay.
Returning to the subject of old rusty objects that I spot. I found a complete rear axel from a large vehicle, complete with wheels.
I eventually returned to more familiar scenery. Tracks that I have not cycled recently, but I know them well. Some lovely views from here as well.
The ground is chalky here, as are many of the hills in The Weald, which covers much of the Southeast of England.
In the next picture, I had to get my wheels wet.
I passed through an enchanted tunnel, which always looks creepy, especially if the sky is cloudy and grey. Formed from low arching trees. Then there is a tunnel under the main road. No lights, and just as creepy! ๐.
A great ride of 29 miles. Taking in some beautiful scenery. It just makes me want more of it! I simply can't wait until the next one ๐.
