From the first time I saw Zappity the evolution of Zappit, I always wanted to make him a fan art related to boxing. This is because the posture he has is a typical fighting posture of boxers. A lot of time passed and I created different drawings, but I still couldn't decide to make a drawing of the little electric boxer rabbit. Today everything changes, because I have the pleasure to show you how my fan art drawing inspired by Zappity and the combat sport known as boxing has turned out. I hope you like it.
Desde la primera vez que vi a Zappity la evolución de Zappit, siempre quise hacerle un fan art relacionado con el boxeo. Esto se debe a que la postura que tiene es una postura de combate típica de los boxeadores. Pasó mucho tiempo y creé distintos dibujos, pero aún no me decidía a hacer un dibujo del pequeño conejo eléctrico boxeador. Hoy todo cambia, pues tengo el placer de mostrarles cómo ha quedado mi dibujo fan art inspirado en Zappity y el deporte de combate conocido como el boxeo. Espero que les guste.
I started by drawing the silhouette of the character using the same pose as the original image shown above. I took the liberty of making some changes to the face design so it wouldn't be exactly the same. I added a pair of boxing gloves and sport shorts to make it fit better with the theme.
Comencé dibujando la silueta del personaje utilizando la misma postura que la imagen original mostrada anteriormente. Me tomé el atrevimiento de realizar algunos cambios al diseño de la cara para que no fuese exactamente igual. Agregué un par de guantes de boxeo y un short corto deportivo para hacer que encajase mejor con la temática.
After the silhouette of the character and the body and face details, I went on to draw the background. In the first instance, I created a combat ring that is in a corner perspective. In the lower part, I created a boarding surrounded by posts and four ropes, as the typical boxing rings usually are. At the top, I placed a series of wooden slats that will support two light fixtures.
Luego de la silueta del personaje y los detalles corporales y del rostro, pasé a dibujar el fondo. En una primera instancia, creé un cuadrilátero de combate que está en una perspectiva esquinada. En la parte inferior, creé un entablado rodeado por postes y cuatro cuerdas, como suelen ser los típicos rings de boxeo. En la parte superior, ubiqué una serie de listones de madera que servirán de soporte a dos luminarias.
Once the line art was ready, I applied the first layer of color. I used the same colors as in the original design for the exposed body parts. Then, I painted the boxing gloves a bright red and colored the rest of the missing areas.

For the decking of the boxing ring, I used a light wood color with a pine wood tone. The ropes, in two pairs, I painted them white and red. The intermediate background will be a very dark green-blue, simulating darkness. As for the ceiling, the light fixtures will be yellow and the decking that supports them will be dark brown, and other parts will be lighter.
Para el entablado del ring de boxeo, utilicé un color madera clara con un tono madera de pino. Las cuerdas, en dos pares, las pinté de blanco y rojo. El fondo intermedio será de un verde-azul bien oscuro, simulando una oscuridad. En cuanto al techo, las luminarias serán amarillas y el entablado que las sostiene, de un marrón oscuro, y otras partes más claras.
In a new color layer, I work the shadows of the character, starting with the ears and ending with the legs and tail. Without working on the shading of the background, I create another new color layer and apply the lighting in the areas opposite to the places where I had drawn the shadows.
En una nueva capa a color, trabajé las sombras del personaje, comenzando por las orejas y terminando por las piernas y la cola. Sin pasar a trabajar el sombreado del fondo, creo otra nueva capa a color y aplico la iluminación en las zonas opuestas a los lugares donde había dibujado las sombras.
For the background I'll do something similar, but this time I'll start working the stage from the bottom up, starting with the shadows of the ring and the character's own shadow. After drawing the shadows of the ropes, I create a new layer for the lighting of the lower part.
The upper part will have neither shadow nor incident light as such. Instead, I will duplicate that layer and apply a blur filter on the whole upper part, bypassing the luminaries. After that, I'll use the soft airbrush brush to create four beams of light starting from the luminaires and pointing towards the stage. To finish, with a 1 px pencil, I will draw several dots in the dark part behind the ring to simulate the presence of the audience taking pictures.
Para el fondo haré algo parecido, pero esta vez empezaré a trabajar el escenario de abajo hacia arriba, comenzando por las sombras del cuadrilátero y la propia sombra del personaje. Luego de dibujar las sombras de las cuerdas, creo una nueva capa para la iluminación de la parte inferior.

Después de eso, utilizaré el pincel de aerógrafo suave para crear cuatro haces de luz que parten desde las luminarias y apuntan hacia el escenario. Para finalizar, con un lápiz de 1 px de tamaño, dibujaré varios puntos en la parte oscura detrás del ring para simular la presencia del público que toma fotos.
Finally, I apply several filters on the final image to highlight the colors, resulting in the following image.
