so i was out on the wonderful rocks of Raugland, a little outside of Stavern. despite the terrain being so rugged it's a great place for a walk. with a little scaling pretty much everywhere on the naked rock is accessible if one is willing to try.

on days like this one can swim to the nearby islets. the water temperature is about 14 C so i never even considered it. there were a few folks jumping in and out of the water but when it has to get closer to 20 C to be of interest to me.

during the ice ages this area was under several kilometers thick ice sheets that scraped and polished the stone into fascinating formations

though most of the stone is amazingly smooth there are patches and veins of coarse exposed crystal, for the most part larvikite. i wish i knew more about geology, these rocks have many striking details that pique my curiosity as well as attract my lens.

the pools of water that form everywhere there is a low spot are also worth a study
