The Amish Decision is a movie I saw yesterday, a 2014 film of the Drama genre, directed by filmmaker Richard Gabai. The screenplay was in charge of Scott Durdan based on the story of Samantha DiPippo and Scott Durdan. I must say that this type of movie is not one of my most favorite genres; however, sometimes I give them a chance and they usually entertain me. This review is more of a personal opinion based on my personal experience and not a professional critique, because as you know I am not an expert on the subject, just a spectator.
This movie tells us about the Amish, a religious community as they have their own customs, they are very traditionalist, they are a secluded group with their beliefs. When young people reach a certain age, they are given the opportunity to visit large cities in order to determine if they want to continue with their customs, away from the outside world and dedicate themselves to their religion, families and work. It is there where we have Hannah, a girl whose mother lost and together with her father, they take the reins of their family. She is curious to know the life of the people, because the Amish are very reserved, they do not use cars, technology, telephones, and many other things, they live a rural life without any of the luxuries that we are used to nowadays.

Esta reseña es más una opinión personal basada en mi experiencia personal y no una crítica profesional, pues como saben no soy un experto del tema, solo un espectador.
Esta película nos habla sobre los Amish, una comunidad religiosa como tiene sus costumbres, son muy tradicionalistas, son un grupo apartado con sus creencias. Cuando los jóvenes llegan a ciertas edades, le dan la oportunidad de visitar grandes ciudades con la finalidad de que determinan si querrán continuar con sus costumbres, apartándose de la vida de mundo exterior y dedicarse a su religión, familias y labores. Allí es donde tenemos a Hannah, una chica cuya madre perdió y junto a su padre llevan las riendas de su familia. Esta tiene curiosidad por conocer la vida de las personas, pues los Amish son muy reservados, no usan coches, la tecnología, teléfonos, y muchas cosas más, viven ruralmente sin nada de lujos a lo que nosotros estamos acostumbrados hoy en día.

I can say that the story of this film is a cliché that I have seen in other films about the Amish, a young woman falls in love with someone who does not have the same customs and religion, as is the case of Hannah, who meets Josh. There is where the difficult decision begins whether to continue with her life with her Amish community or leave everything for love. The decision is complicated because they are expelled from the community, for which our protagonist of the story would leave her mother alone with her younger siblings. Although the story is quite repetitive, I did not dislike it as a whole, because it was partly entertaining to spend some time.
I don't really know in depth what is the life of an Amish community, I guess and from what I read this movie is not faithful, it has its details, but I'm more interested in the message it leaves us with. The story is about the struggle between duty and love, to do what really dictates our heart. Many times we stop doing what we want simply because we are afraid of the unknown, of failure, but I am one of those who think that taking risks is also valid. Hannah must make the complicated decision to continue in her community as planned, because even the girl is engaged to a young Amish man. What will Hannah's decision be, will she give up everything for Josh or will she continue the tradition that was instilled in her from a very young age? I don't want to give you spoilers, so if you are more curious, I invite you to watch the movie.
I thought the cast of the film was fine, I didn't dislike it, with performances where each one did their job, one better than the other. AJ Michalka gave life to Hannah Yoder, while Jesse McCartney gave life to Josh. I liked the work of both of them, although I must say it was okay, nothing exceptional enough to give them an Oscar. As far as the cinematography is concerned, the film tries to show us what Amish life is like as opposed to modern life where people look for more facilities. In the film we see quite beautiful scenery, so we can enjoy places that give us rural life, contact with animals and nature. The soundtrack I must say that it didn't impact me, but it didn't disappoint me either, you could say that I also consider it regular.
As I said at the beginning, this movie is to pass the time and learn more about the Amish culture, their customs and more about their lives. The story of the movie could be said to be interesting because of the message it leaves us, where many times we must make difficult decisions, where in both cases we must leave something behind and that I consider to be complicated. Do I recommend it? I must say that it is not a disaster, but nothing spectacular either. If you like the genre, this can be a perfect option to have a good time.
Dedo decir que la historia de esta película es un cliché que he visto en otros filmes que tratan sobre los Amish, una joven se enamora de alguien que no tiene sus mismas costumbre y religión, tal como es el caso de Hannah, quien conoce a Josh. Allí es donde comienza la difícil decisión si continuar con su vida que ya tiene junto a su comunidad de Amish o dejar todo por amor. La decisión es complicada por estos son expulsados de la comunidad, por la cual nuestra protagonista de la historia dejaría solo a su madre con sus hermanos menores. La historia trata sobre la lucha entre el deber y el amor, hacer lo que realmente nos dicta nuestro corazón. Muchas veces dejamos de hacer lo que queremos simplemente porque nos da el miedo a lo desconocido, al fracaso, pero soy de los que piensa que arriesgarse también es válido. Hannah debe tomar la complicada decisión de continuar en su comunidad tal cual como fue planeada, porque incluso la chica está comprometido con un joven Amish. ¿Cuál será la decisión de Hannah? ¿Dejará todo por Josh o continuará con la tradición que se le inculcó desde muy chica? No quiero darles spoiler, así que si tiene más curiosidad, los invito a ver la película.
El reparto del filme me pareció bien, no me desagradó, con unas actuaciones donde cada uno hizo su trabajo, uno mejores que el otro. AJ Michalka le dio vida a Hannah Yoder, mientras que Jesse McCartney le dio vida a Josh. Me gustó el trabajo de ambos, aunque debo decir que fue correcto, nada excepcional como para darles un Oscar. En lo que a la fotografía se refiere, la película nos trata de mostrar lo que es la vida Amish para diferencia de la vida moderna donde las personas buscan más las facilidades. En el filme vemos escenarios bastante hermosos, así que podemos disfrutar de lugares que nos dan la vida rural, el contacto con los animales y la naturaleza.
