It had been a while since I played a PlayStation 1 game as interesting as this one and the game I will talk about today I discovered it about 3 months ago or I think more, but I had not had the time to play it and I had not dedicated 100% to try it, since I had played a little, but just 10 minutes. We are facing one of those PlayStation 1 games that at least for me went pretty unnoticed and over the years that I've been doing video game reviews I had never seen it, nor have I seen videos of the youtubers that I regularly watch who talk about retro games, have mentioned it, so I'm sure it is one of those hidden gems of the Sony console. A first person shooter game, with an interesting premise although somewhat confusing in certain aspects, but overall an entertaining game.
Today's Retro Review is about: Gungage.
Gungage focuses on the life and events of a futuristic world fallen into chaos and we see these events through the perspective of the four main characters. A world where biotechnology has taken control over themselves and are now against humanity. In itself the story does not have a central plot so detailed, because it is a game that has different perspectives of the same event, the events that we will live through the eyes of these characters will be totally different, having several elements that are not related between the four characters, while other aspects of these events if they will be but will not be very explicit, so to investigate everything that happens in the lives of these people and how they face their stories is of utmost importance to have a broad picture of what is happening. Visually it's what we would expect from a PS1 game, it's not the best of Sony's console but it's a game that has its own personality as it has pretty decent 3D models, with a pretty good futuristic style and with character designs very much in the style of anime.

It is a game that has a considerable variety of excellently set scenarios, so we can find places like cities, laboratories and many of them, due to the war that is present in this world are destroyed or with traces that in that place there has been a battle. Gungage is visually striking due to its color palette and having that sci-fi movie atmosphere makes me personally like it much more. Musically it is a game that is according to its plot and especially to its graphic aesthetics, so the vast majority of the melodies present in this game has musical genres such as techno, trance, electric music in general, which manages to create an excellent atmosphere especially in those moments of more action or even in the most reflective moments as it also has several ambient melodies perfect for those moments, but always maintaining the main feature as it is the sci-fi genre.

The sound effects are very good in equal parts, making sounds like gunshots and explosions sound pretty good, plus they are very varied for each weapon available in this game. Personally I think that the characters lacked voices, since an interpretation by this means would give much more depth to the moments that are lived in this adventure and would also give more personality and charisma to the characters. At the gameplay level we are facing a third-person shooter game, so it is a game with constant action. It has the particularity that we will have the opportunity to play with four characters, in this way and so to speak, this game has 4 different ways to play it, since each character has its respective form of control and gameplay by having different weapons, equipment and skills.

It is a game that for many who are not used to it can be a bit rigid in terms of mobility, but this was a very typical aspect of the games of that time, but easily and quickly are shortcomings that can be overcome and get used to. There is a good variety of enemies which, as well as the final bosses, being these the ones that stand out the most, have different attack patterns and ways to eliminate them. By having four characters available, Gungable has a fairly high replayability, as each character has a different approach to the story and also, each character has unique levels and events. Gungage is undoubtedly a jewel of the PlayStation 1, quite hidden and very entertaining, a game that was not very popular at the time, but worth playing.

Había pasado algo de tiempo desde que jugaba algún juego de PlayStation 1 tan interesante como este y es que el juego del cual les hablaré hoy lo descubrí hace como 3 meses o creo que más, pero no había tenido el tiempo de jugarlo y tampoco me había dedicado al 100% a probarlo, ya que si había jugado un poco, pero apenas 10 minutos. Estamos ante uno de esos juegos de PlayStation 1 que al menos para mí pasó bastante desapercibido y a lo largo de estos años que llevo haciendo reviews de videojuegos nunca lo había visto, ni mucho vemos he visto videos de los youtubers que regularmente miro que hablan de juegos retro, lo han mencionado, por lo que estoy seguro que es una de esas joyas ocultas de la consola de Sony. Un juego de disparos en primera persona, con una premisa interesante aunque algo confusa en ciertos aspectos, pero en general un juego entretenido.
La Retro Review de hoy es sobre: Gungage.
Gungage se centra en la vida y en los acontecimientos de un mundo futurista caído en caos y vemos estos acontecimientos por medio de la perspectiva de los cuatro protagonistas. Un mundo donde la biotecnología ha tomado el control sobre sí mismos y ahora están en contra de la humanidad. En si la historia no cuenta con un argumento central tan detallado, ya que debido a que es un juego que cuenta con distintas perspectivas de un mismo evento, los sucesos que iremos viviendo a través de los ojos de estos personajes serán totalmente distintas, teniendo varios elementos que no están relacionados entre los cuatro personajes, mientras que otros aspectos de estos sucesos si lo estarán pero no será de forma muy explícita, por lo que indagar sobre todo lo que sucede en la vida de estos personas y cómo afrontan sus historias es de suma importancia para tener un panorama amplio de lo que va sucediendo. Visualmente es lo que podríamos esperar de un juego de PS1, en si no es lo mejor de la consola de Sony pero es un juego que cuenta con su propia personalidad al tener modelos en 3D bastante decentes, con un estilo futurista bastante bueno y con diseños de personajes muy al estilo de anime.

Es un juego que cuenta con una considerable variedad de escenarios excelentemente ambientados, por lo que podremos encontrar lugares como ciudades, laboratorios y muchos de ellos, debido a la guerra que está presente en este mundo están destruidos o con rastros de que en ese lugar ha habido una batalla. Gungage es visualmente llamativo debido a su paleta de colores y al tener esa atmosfera de película de ciencia ficción hace que personalmente me guste mucho más. Musicalmente es un juego que está acorde a su argumento y especialmente a su estética gráfica, por lo que la gran mayoría de las melodías presentes en este juego cuenta con géneros musicales como el tecno, trance, música eléctrica en general, la cual logra crear una ambientación excelente especialmente en aquellos momentos de más acción o incluso en los momentos más reflexivos ya que además cuenta también con varias melodías ambientales perfectas para dichos momentos, pero siempre manteniendo la característica principal como lo es el género sci-fi.

Los efectos de sonido son muy buenos por partes iguales, logrando que sonidos como disparos, explosiones se escuche bastante bien, además de que son muy variados para cada arma con la que cuenta a disposición este juego. Personalmente considero que le faltaron voces a los personajes, ya que una interpretación por este medio le daría mucha más profundidad a los momentos que se viven en esta aventura y también le daría más personalidad y carisma a los personajes. A nivel jugable estamos ante un juego de disparos en tercera persona, por lo que es un juego con acción constante. Cuenta con la particularidad de que tendremos la oportunidad de jugar con cuatro personajes, de esta manera y por decirlo de algún modo, este juego cuenta con 4 distintas formas de jugarlo, ya que cada personaje tiene su respectiva forma de control y jugabilidad al tener distintas armas, equipamiento y habilidades.

Es un juego que puede que para muchos que no estén acostumbrados puede llegar a ser un poco rígido en términos de movilidad, pero esto era un aspecto muy típico de los juegos de esa época, pero fácilmente y rápidamente son carencias que se logran superar y acostumbrar. Hay una buen variedad de enemigos los cuales y al igual que los jefes finales, siendo estos los que más destacan, cuentan con distintos patrones de ataques y formas en como eliminarlos. Al tener cuatro personajes disponibles, Gungable cuenta con una rejugabilidad bastante alta, ya que cada personaje tiene un enfoque distinto en la historia y además, cada personaje cuenta con niveles y sucesos exclusivos. Gungage es sin duda una joya de la PlayStation 1, bastante oculta y muy entretenido, un juego que no fue muy popular en su momento, pero que vale la pena jugar.
