Today, I’m taking away from my usual tales of beaches and cultural landmarks to dive into a whole new kind of adventure. I found myself soaked in art and light. This digital art wonderland slipped me into an unusual world where nature, fantasy, and technology blend in mesmerizing harmony.
It all started as a simple movie date. My husband and I had planned to watch a movie at Dubai Mall. Just a movie, nothing fancy. After the movie, we roamed through the mall. And something caught our eye. A place called the Arte Museum. We walked over, curious. Without much doubt, we glanced at each other, smiled, and decided to look into it. Sometimes the best ventures are the unexpected ones. The fee was AED 149 per person (about $40.57). We also learned about the Tea Bar, an additional AED20 if we wanted to experience that, too. So we said yes to everything.
As we walked inside, the outside world faded away. The first exhibition that welcomed us was The Ocean. An exciting digital seascape that felt so real. I could nearly savor the salt in the air. Hear the smashing of waves. The movement of the digital stream created an ambiance that was calming and powerful.
After being completely swept away by the depth and rhythm of The Ocean, we stepped into a softer, more romantic world, The Flower Rose exhibition. Big roses in shades of red, light green and gold opened over the walls. Petals moved smoothly in the air, creating a sense of peaceful stillness. The time had temporarily paused to let us simply breathe in the beauty.
The space came alive with spilling digital streams that tumbled down tremendously, glowing cliffs, surrounding us with motion and sound. The sound of moving water filled the room, creating a sense of movement and awe.
We went to one of the mystic places, the Starry Beach. The whole room shone with a smooth, heavenly glow. The ocean and the night sky had mixed into one wonderful view. My husband, completely captivated, turned to me with a playful smile. I hurriedly took a picture of him.
The ambiance changed into cool, mysterious, and alive. Tall digital trees extend upwards, their leaves softly rustling with the sound of wind and distant birdsong. Light peeked through the treetops, shifting with every step we took, and the floor responded to our movement like a forest floor soft with moss.
Our next stop was the Live Sketchbook Coral Reef. A lively, interactive world bursting with color and creativity. What made this room extra special was the chance to become part of the art. My husband excitedly sketched our names and colored the fish he chose on the paper they provided. Once finished, we placed the paper on a special digital scanner, and like magic, it appeared on the enormous coral reef projection, drifting along with the digital fish and jellyfish.
Then came Romantic Thunder, a space that took our breath away with its sensational beauty. The room beat with the power of a storm. Sparks of lightning glowing in the darkened space with stirring clouds. My husband and I stood there quietly, covered in the emotion of the moment.
The Live Canvas, a joyful and interactive space much like the Live Sketchbook. We got to color draft animal templates and bring them to life in a vibrant, animated world. My husband, always playful and thoughtful, chose a fox and an ostrich, two quirky and adorable characters. He carefully colored them in, then wrote the names of our grandchildren on each one, smiling as he did. After placing the papers on the special digital scanner. We watched in awe as the fox and ostrich came alive, playfully roaming across the vibrant screens.
We stepped into the final exhibition, Garden, Life of UAE. This space felt like a praise to the natural beauty and legacy of the Emirates. Blooming with alive digital flora native to the region. Native desert flowers bloomed in bursts of color and palm fronds swayed gently. The golden sunlight penetrated through as if we were walking through a serene oasis.
We were in awe as we saw beautiful images from other countries seamlessly woven into the experience.
To finish our captivating experience. We went to Tea Bar for our final stop. With its lighting and relaxing vibe, it was the ideal place to break and take it all in. We decided to keep it light and sweet. We treated ourselves to ice cream instead.
That unplanned stop became the highlight of the day. We left feeling inspired, and honestly kind of in awe. Dubai is full of high-tech features and lavish adventures. The Arte Museum stands out for its creativity and emotion. Something was healing about art that lets you be a part of it. Something freeing in being surrounded by color and sound in a space that doesn’t ask anything of you but presence.
