Hey All,
I was browsing my stock portfolio today morning and then I happened to see this word "CA" — aka Corporate Actions — written in front of a stock that I have been holding for quite a long time. I will get to that stock in the later part of the post; for now, let's focus on these two alphabets — CA.
To be honest, I didn't know anything about this "CA" being implied. What I did was a simple Google search to know more about it, and that's when I came to know that it stands for Corporate Actions.
As per SEBI [Securities and Exchange Board of India] guidelines, companies are mandated to disclose corporate actions such as dividends, stock splits, rights issues, and bonus shares in a timely and transparent manner, and hence the stock broker app indicates the same by appending "CA" next to the stock ticker. As seen from the following image Right issue and Buyback disclosure may or may not have "CA" appended to the Stock ticker its on a voluntary basis.
I have this habit of ensuring and deep diving into things which aren't clear — else what's the point of these notifications coming in and users not taking any action? At the same time, it helps one not to miss out on any crucial information that could affect their investment decisions.
Lets now look into the stock that I told at the start of the post that I will be taking about. Well its none other than IDFCFIRST bank and as you can clearly see there is this - "CA" appended to the stock ticker. This was the alarm to check what does CA mean here. I am sitting at a decent profit here but then when I looked why CA is appended to it, I came to know that IDFCFIRST bank has declared a dividend of ₹0.25 per equity share (face value ₹10) for the financial year ending March 31, 2025, which represents a 2.5% dividend payout.
Key Details as follows::
- Ex‑Dividend Date: Thursday, July 10, 2025 — to be eligible, shares must be bought on or before July 9, 2025. I have close to 1900 shares in my dmat account so I am eligible for the dividend
- Record Date: Friday, July 11, 2025 — shareholders recorded in the books on this day are eligible for the dividend
- AND finally the Dividend per share: ₹0.25 (2.5% of ₹10 face value)
So you see the importance of being well informed here. Had I not known about this - CA [Corporate Actions] meaning I could have landed selling the shares much early and book my profits. But now that I know there is this dividend declared there is definitely going to be some momentum in the stock price and at the same time we can enjoy the FREE money as dividend. Well that should be it for todays post on the Stock Market 101:: Deep dive into what does it CA mean - when its written IN front of a STOCK Ticker.
