Shannon railway station is a working heritage train station on New Zealand’s North Island Main Trunk, serving the small town of Shannon which is between Wellington and Palmerston North, or for us between Wellington and Whanganui. It was Built in 1893 , it’s one of the last remaining timber stations from the Wellington and Manawatu Railway era.

It functions as both a stop for the Capital Connection commuter train and a community museum and visitor center, it seemed pretty quiet on the day that I was there, which admittedly was the a Tuesday afternoon, but I think wonderful that building like this still exist and think of the history that has run through here since 1893.
