Good morning to all my dear Hive friends,
There is something uniquely satisfying about combining traditional village flavors with comforting spices—especially when breadfruit takes center stage. Known for its soft, starchy texture and ability to absorb rich spices, breadfruit becomes the perfect base for a heartwarming blend.
This dish transforms the earthy taste of jackfruit and the warmth of the spices into a fragrant, flavorful experience. This breadfruit mallum is incredibly tasty and can be served as an accompaniment to rice or bread.
Let’s take a look at how to prepare this rustic and flavorful recipe!
Required Ingredients...
🍀 1 Breadfruit .
🍀 1/2 Cup of Grated Coconut.
🍀 curry leaves.
🍀 2 cloves garlic finely chopped.
🍀 An Onion.
🍀 About 4 cloves of garlic.
🍀 A piece of ginger.
🍀 4 dried chili peppers.
🍀 About 3 cinnamon sticks.
🍀 Salt as needed.
🍀 1 teaspoon of pepper powder.
🍀 1/2 Teaspoon of turmeric powder.
🍀 1/2 Teaspoon of Mustard powder.
🍀 2 to 3 green chilies or cochineal pods.
🍀 1 Teaspoon of Mustard seed.
🍀 2 Tablespoon of coconut oil.
Method of making....
First, remove the skin of the breadfruit and cut it into very small pieces as shown below.
Next, place the chopped breadfruit pieces in a pot, add some water and a little turmeric powder, and boil them well over the stove.
Next, using a mortar and pestle, add garlic, ginger, raw chilies, turmeric powder, and pepper powder, turmeric powder and grind them well. Then add grated coconut to the same mixture, grind everything thoroughly, and set the coconut mixture aside.
Now take another pan and add about two tablespoons of coconut oil, allowing it to heat until it becomes slightly reddish. Once the oil is heated, add chopped garlic, salt, curry leaves, cinnamon, pieces of dried chili, and the prepared coconut mixture. Stir-fry everything well.
Finally, add the cooked breadfruit pieces into the mixture and stir well. Let it cook for about 2 more minutes, then remove it from the heat.
Once prepared, this blend of breadfruit and spices fills the home with a delightful aroma — satisfying, aromatic, and deeply comforting. It is best enjoyed warm, perhaps served with rice or a simple roti, and shared among loved ones. It's a humble yet powerful reminder of how delicious simplicity can be.
Happy cooking!
