Hello everyone, great community of film fans, I hope you are well, today I want to talk about a film that went unnoticed, and that left me with mixed feelings... let me tell you, it was a roller coaster of emotions, from the beginning, the film grabs you and doesn't let go, imagine! They put Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain together in the same film, two super talented actresses... these two are goddesses, pure elegance and talent! From the moment the credits started I was there, glued to the screen, thinking: "Wow, something good is going to happen here!"... I knew that with these two on screen, the performances were going to be next level, and I confess that that was my greatest expectation... the story takes us to the time of the Cold War, in residential neighborhoods that seem perfect, two families living next door, everything nice, everything quiet, like a fairy tale... until night falls and things get murky. It starts out simple: two moms, best friends, inseparable, with children the same age, living the "American dream"... but you know how it is, "all that glitters is not gold," especially not in the movies... suddenly, boom! A tragedy changes everything, and then a drama begins that grips you and leaves you wondering: "What the heck is going on here?"
Hola a todos, gran comunidad fanática del cine, espero que estén bien, hoy les quiero hablar de una película que paso desapercibida, y que me dejó sentimientos encontrados.. déjenme decirles que fue una montaña rusa de emociones, desde el comienzo, la película te agarra y no te suelta, ¡imagínense! Juntaron a Anne Hathaway y Jessica Chastain en la misma película, dos actrices super talentosas.. estas dos son unas diosas, ¡pura elegancia y talento! Desde que empezaron los créditos yo estaba ahí, pegado a la pantalla, pensando: "¡Upa, aquí va a pasar algo bueno!".. sabía que con estas dos en pantalla, las actuaciones iban a ser de otro nivel, y les confieso que esa era mi mayor expectativa.. la historia nos lleva a la época de la Guerra Fría, en unos barrios residenciales que parecen perfectos, dos familias que viven al lado, todo lindo, todo tranquilo, como un cuento de hadas… hasta que cae la noche y se pone turbio el asunto. La cosa empieza sencilla: dos mamás, mejores amigas, inseparables, con hijos de la misma edad, viviendo el "sueño americano".. pero ya saben cómo es, "no todo lo que brilla es oro", y menos en las películas.. de repente, ¡pum! Una tragedia que lo cambia todo, y ahí empieza un drama que te atrapa y te deja pensando: "¿Qué rayos está pasando aquí?".
I have to admit that this mix of drama and psychological thriller really caught me, it had a constant tension, you know? One of those that reminds you of classic Hitchcock films, like a nod to the master of suspense... at times I felt like watching this movie was like putting together a mental puzzle, one of those that leaves you thinking... you start questioning everything the characters do, and the movie plays with you, as if the director wanted you to feel the weight of each decision, the secret everyone is keeping, and that feeling that nothing here is what it seems. Now, although the initial idea is super interesting, it doesn't end up being entirely convincing.
From the beginning, I completely bought into that vibe of life in the suburbs during the Cold War... the settings, the clothes, even the music, everything transports you back to that time... when life was supposed to be simpler, but in reality had its hidden complications. It’s weird how the movie makes you nostalgic for a time that, if you think about it, wasn’t that great. There’s a bittersweet flavor in the way they portray all of that, and I kept thinking about how complicated we humans are: we want perfection, but we always end up in chaos. As the movie progresses, the story starts to fall apart, but in an exaggerated way, really! At first, I liked how they built up the whole mystery and how they gave you clues to understand life in the suburbs, but then the plot started to go off on a tangent, to the point of being ridiculous. There were times when I was like: “Are they really going to go that way? No way!” As if the script had gotten too excited and overdone it, stretching the story until it seemed like one of those Sunday afternoon movies, to be honest, that did disappoint me a little.
Tengo que reconocer que esa mezcla de drama con thriller psicológico sí me atrapó, tenía una tensión constante, ¿saben? De esas que te hacen acordar a las pelis clásicas de Hitchcock, como un guiño al maestro del suspense.. a veces sentía que ver esta película era como armar un rompecabezas mental, de esos que te dejan pensando.. te pones a cuestionar cada cosa que hacen los personajes, y la película juega contigo, como si el director quisiera que sintieras el peso de cada decisión, el secreto que guardan todos y esa sensación de que aquí nada es lo que parece, ahora, aunque la idea inicial es súper interesante, la cosa no termina de convencer del todo.
Desde el principio, me compré completamente esa onda de vida en los suburbios durante la Guerra Fría.. los escenarios, la ropa, hasta la música, todo te transporta a esa época.. cuando se suponía que la vida era más simple, pero que en realidad tenía sus complicaciones escondidas. Es raro cómo la película te da nostalgia por una época que, si lo pensás bien, no era ninguna maravilla.. hay como un sabor agridulce en cómo muestran todo eso, y me quedé pensando en lo complicado que somos los humanos: queremos la perfección, pero siempre terminamos en el caos.. a medida que avanza la película, la historia empieza a caerse a pedazos, pero de una manera exagerada, ¡en serio! Al principio, me gustó cómo armaron todo el misterio y cómo te daban pistas para entender la vida en los suburbios, pero después la trama empezó a irse por las ramas, hasta lo ridículo.. hubo momentos en que me quedé pensando: "¿En serio van a ir por ahí? ¡No me digas!". Como si el guion se hubiera emocionado demasiado y se le fue la mano, estirando la historia hasta que parecía esas películas de domingo por la tarde, la verdad, eso sí que me decepcionó un poco.
And speaking of disappointments, my people, let’s talk about the performances… let’s see, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain are the main reason why a lot of people are going to see this movie, that’s for sure! I have to say that at first, the chemistry between them is brutal, it grabs you from minute one… They both act so powerfully and a few minutes later, you believe everything they do, I swear! But… (there’s always a “but”, right?) as the movie gets closer to the end, I feel like their characters are going off on a tangent, they get too dramatic, they almost overact! At times I was thinking: “Oh no! Really?!” I felt like their incredible talent was trapped in a story that didn’t do them justice, a total shame…
I was left with a strange feeling, you know? English: On the one hand, you're watching these two amazing actresses giving their all in every scene... On the other hand, you realize that the story they were given wasn't the best, it fell flat on its face... The ending! Oh my God, the ending! After they've got you there, with all the tension and anticipation through the roof, the ending is like a bucket of cold water... An ending like that, all of a sudden, that doesn't give you the satisfaction you expect after so much, I don't know if I'm making myself clear... Without spoiling too much, I'll tell you that the ending felt rushed, as if it had been rushed through, and a bit disastrous, to be honest.
As if all the emotion the film tried to create went down the drain, leaving you with a feeling of "meh" and wondering: "And all this for what?".. I came away thinking that, despite the fact that the idea of the film was good and had intense moments, in the end it did not deliver what it promised at the beginning, I know I'm not the only one who thinks this, eh.. I've seen that the film has generated debate among people and critics. Some praise the acting at the beginning and the main idea, but others, like myself, criticize that they could not keep the pace and that they went downhill with an ending that seems to contradict everything they had built before. It's as if the film tried to be too many things at once: drama, psychological thriller, homage to Hitchcock... and in the end, by trying to cover so much, it didn't end up excelling in anything, what a shame!
Y hablando de decepciones, mi gente, hablemos de las actuaciones.. a ver, Anne Hathaway y Jessica Chastain, son la razón principal por la que mucha gente va a ver esta película, ¡eso seguro! tengo que decir que al principio, la química entre ellas es brutal, te atrapa desde el minuto uno.. Las dos actúan con una fuerza y unos minutos después, te crees todo lo que hacen, ¡te lo juro! Pero... (siempre hay un "pero", ¿no?) a medida que la película se acerca al final, siento que sus personajes se van por las ramas, se ponen demasiado dramáticas, ¡casi que sobreactúan! en algunos momentos pensaba: "¡Ay, no! ¡¿En serio?!", sentía que su talento increíble estaba como atrapado en una historia que no les hacía justicia, una pena total..
Me quedé con una sensación rara, ¿saben? Como que por un lado, estás viendo a estas dos actrices que son unas cracks, que lo dan todo en cada escena.. por otro lado, te das cuenta de que la historia que les tocó no es lo mejor, cae de una manera inaudita... ¡el final! ¡Ay, Dios mío, el final! Después de que te tienen ahí, con toda la tensión y la expectativa por las nubes, el final es como un baldazo de agua fría.. un final así, de golpe, que no te da esa satisfacción que esperas después de tanta cosa,¡no sé si me explico.. sin spoilearles mucho, les digo que el final se sintió apurado, como si lo hubieran hecho a las carreras, y un poco desastroso, para ser sincero.
Como si toda la emoción que la película intentó crear se fuera por el caño, dejándote con una sensación de "meh" y preguntándote: "¿Y todo esto para qué?".. salí pensando que, a pesar de que la idea de la película era buena y tuvo momentos intensos, al final no cumplió lo que prometía al principio, sé que no soy el único que piensa así, eh.. he visto que la película ha generado debate entre la gente y los críticos. Algunos alaban las actuaciones del comienzo y la idea principal, pero otros, como yo, criticamos que no supieron mantener el ritmo y que se fueron en picada con un final que parece que contradice todo lo que habían armado antes.. es como si la película hubiera querido ser muchas cosas a la vez: drama, thriller psicológico, homenaje a Hitchcock... ¡y al final, por querer abarcar tanto, no terminó de destacar en nada, una lastima!
But hey, not everything is bad, despite the fact that I aired its dirty laundry, there are things that I do appreciate about the film... the photography and how they put together the whole visual vibe, I thought it was incredible... they recreated the residential neighborhoods of the Cold War in such a detailed way, there's something kind of nostalgic, beautiful, you know? And that shows how a good image can touch your heart and make you feel like you're somewhere else... it's a lesson in how the environment and the atmosphere can lift a story, even if the plot isn't that great... so, what are we left with? On second thought, I'm going to give it a 6/10... it's a bittersweet experience. On one hand, you have Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain together again, an interesting idea at the beginning and a setting that blows your mind beautifully...
But on the other hand, the story gets flat, it gets too dramatic and the ending leaves you with more questions than answers. It's not one of those movies that will leave a lasting impression on you, that will stay with you forever, but it is one of those that makes you think and talk with your friends. In the end, if you like psychological dramas with a touch of mystery and you like the retro vibe, I would tell you to give it a chance. But if you're expecting a perfect story, flawless and with an ending that will leave you applauding, you'd better lower your expectations a little... Personally, I came away with mixed feelings: happy to see these two incredible actresses together on screen, but a little disappointed that the film tried to be too ambitious and didn't turn out as well as I had hoped... but hey, that's life... see you in the next reviews, take care! Pero bueno, no todo es malo, apesar de que le saqué sus trapitos al sol, hay cosas que sí rescato de la película.. la fotografía y cómo armaron toda la onda visual, me pareció increíble.. recrearon los barrios residenciales de la Guerra Fría de una manera tan detallada, tiene algo como nostálgico, bonito, ¿saben? Y eso demuestra cómo una buena imagen te puede llegar al corazón y hacerte sentir que estás en otro lugar.. es una lección de cómo el ambiente y la atmósfera pueden levantar una historia, incluso si la trama no es la gran cosa.. entonces, ¿en qué quedamos? Pensándolo bien, le voy a dar un 6/10.. es una experiencia ahí, como agridulce, por un lado, tienes a Anne Hathaway y Jessica Chastain juntas de nuevo, una idea interesante al principio y una ambientación que te vuela la cabeza de lo linda..
Pero por otro lado, la historia se va desinflando, se pone demasiado dramática y el final te deja más dudas que respuestas, no es de esas películas que te marcan la vida, que te quedan grabadas para siempre, pero sí es de las que te hacen pensar y hablar con tus amigos, al final, si te gustan los dramas psicológicos con un toque de misterio y te va la onda retro, yo te diría que le des una oportunidad. Pero si esperas una historia perfecta, sin fallas y con un final que te deje aplaudiendo, mejor bajá un poco las expectativas.. Yo, personalmente, salí con sentimientos encontrados: contento de ver a estas dos actrices increíbles juntas en pantalla, pero un poco decepcionado de que la película quiso ser demasiado ambiciosa y no le salió tan bien como esperaba.. pero bueno, así es la vida.. nos vemos en las próximas reseñas, cuidense mucho!
