Hello everyone, fans of good stories, I hope you're all doing great today. This time, I want to share a new review with you. I'm here to give you my opinions on a movie I saw last night that definitely got me thinking... I'll talk about "Perfect Days," and honestly, the name's kind of... ironic, isn't it? Because when you hear what it's about, you think: "Perfectly... BORING?" But believe me, not at all. Just imagine this: a Japanese movie, right? Directed by a German guy, Wim Wenders... a peculiar combination, don't you think? And all this takes place in Tokyo, following the life of a guy who cleans public restrooms. Yes... restrooms, I know, it sounds totally weird. When I first read the synopsis, I thought: "Hmm... interesting, maybe?" But the truth is, more than anything I was curious about how they were going to make a movie about that... but here comes the good part, and this is where things get interesting. I finished watching it feeling... different, like I had a strange but profound experience watching someone else's super normal life... and I think that's the trick.
It's about making you reconsider the beauty of routine and the small details, the movie immerses you in the world of this guy, Hirayama... he is the protagonist and he is there, simply... living... and cleaning bathrooms, but it's not just cleaning, it's about everything that surrounds him... you see him wake up, carefully fold his futon, water his bonsai trees, buy himself a coffee from a vending machine and here comes the best part: he picks up a cassette to go to work! It's this incredible mix of the classic and the modern that works SO well... and the music, wow, great, he has a BRUTAL collection of classic rock and soul! Think about it: Patti Smith, The Velvet Underground, Van Morrison... crazy! You see him driving through Tokyo, those crazy, crowded streets, and there he is, vibrating. It creates an INSANE contrast, a brilliant combination between the chaotic city and his calm inner world... it's as if music is his refuge, his way of understanding the world.
Hola a todos, fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que estén súper bien el día de hoy, en esta ocasión, les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, les vengo a dar mis opiniones de una película que vi anoche y que sin duda me dejó pensando.. les hablaré de: "Perfect Days" y, la verdad, el nombre como que... ¿irónico, no? porque cuando uno escucha de qué va, uno piensa: "¿Perfectamente… ABURRIDA?".. pero créanme, para nada.. imagínense esto: peli japonesa, ¿ok? la dirige un tipo alemán, Wim Wenders.. una combinación peculiar ¿no les parece? Y todo esto pasa en Tokio, siguiendo la vida de un tipo que limpia baños públicos, si.. baños, lo sé, suena totalmente raro, cuando leí la sinopsis por primera vez, yo pensé: "Mmm... interesante, ¿quizás?". Pero la verdad, más que nada tenía curiosidad de cómo iban a hacer una película sobre eso.. pero aquí viene lo bueno, y aquí es donde la cosa se pone interesante termine de verla sintiéndome.. diferente, como si hubiera tenido una experiencia rara pero profunda viendo la vida súper normal de otra persona.. y creo que ahí está el truco.
Se trata de que uno reconsidere la belleza de la rutina y los pequeños detalles, la película te mete de lleno en el mundo de este tipo, Hirayama.. él es el protagonista y está ahí, simplemente... viviendo.. y impiando baños, pero no es solo limpiar, va de todo lo que lo rodea.. uno lo ve despertarse, doblar su futón con cuidado, regar sus bonsáis, comprarse un café de máquina y ahí viene lo mejor: escoge un casete para irse al trabajo! Es esa mezcla increíble de lo clásico y lo moderno que funciona TAN bien.. y la música, uff, buenísima, tiene una colección BRUTAL de rock clásico y soul! Piénsenlo: Patti Smith, The Velvet Underground, Van Morrison.. una locura! Uno lo ve manejando por Tokio, esas calles locas y llenas de gente, y él ahí, vibrando, se crea un contraste LOQUÍSIMO, una combinación genial entre la ciudad caótica y su mundo interno tranquilo.. es como si la música fuera su refugio, su forma de entender el mundo.
He arrives at work and it's these crazy, ultra-modern public restrooms... architecturally incredible! These aren't your typical dirty restrooms; they're like little works of art, and he cleans them with incredible concentration and care! It's almost like a ritual for him; every brushstroke, every stroke, he does everything with intention... you can tell he's proud of his job, even if it's just, you know, cleaning restrooms... there we see how he spends his entire day. He has lunch in the park; he loves taking pictures of trees. After work, he goes to a public restroom, reads a book before bed; it's the same things, day after day... but the film makes it fascinating! Because it's not about WHAT he's doing, but HOW he's doing it and how he sees the world... I think that's the magic of "Perfect Days." It’s a matter of perspective, it shows us that beauty isn’t only in great adventures or spectacular landscapes… it’s right there, in the most ordinary moments, if you take the time to look. Hirayama, he does see it… the beauty in the sunlight, in the trees, in people’s faces, in their routine.
The film, in its own quiet, thoughtful way, forces you to see it too… it’s as if the film is imitating Hirayama’s life. It’s slow, it’s thoughtful, it’s kind of repetitive, but it’s also incredibly beautiful and it rewards you if you slow down a bit and pay attention; it’s almost like meditating! You have to be present to truly appreciate it, just as Hirayama has to be present to appreciate his life… that connection, that reflection between the character and us, I think is what makes the film so powerful. Koji Yakusho, the actor who plays Hirayama? The guy is a CRACK! He won the Best Actor award at Cannes for this role, and it was incredibly well-deserved. He barely speaks throughout the entire film—seriously, there's almost no dialogue—but he conveys a lot with just his eyes, the way he holds himself, his small gestures. You understand everything about him without him explaining it to you. It's all in what he does, in how he reacts—showing, not telling.
El llega al trabajo y son unos baños públicos súper locos, modernísimos.. arquitectónicamente increíbles! Que estos no son los típicos baños sucios, son como pequeñas obras de arte, y él los limpia con una concentración, ¡un cuidado impresionante! Es casi como un ritual para él, cada pincelada, cada pasada, todo lo hace con una intención.. se nota que está orgulloso de su trabajo, aunque sea, ya saben, limpiar baños.. ahí vemos cómo va pasando todo su día. Almuerza en el parque, le encanta tomar fotos de árboles. Después de chambear, se va a unos baños públicos, lee un libro antes de dormir, son las mismas cosas, día tras día.. pero la película lo hace ¡fascinante! Porque no se trata de QUÉ está haciendo, sino de CÓMO lo está haciendo y de cómo ve el mundo.. creo que ahí está la magia de "Perfect Days". Es cuestión de perspectiva, nos muestra que la belleza no está solo en las grandes aventuras o en paisajes espectaculares... está ahí mismo, en los momentos más normales, si te das el tiempo de mirar. Hirayama, él sí la ve.. la belleza en la luz del sol, en los árboles, en las caras de la gente, en su rutina, la película, a su manera calladita y pensada, te obliga a verla también.. ds como si la película imitara la vida de Hirayama.
Es lenta, es pensada, medio repetitiva por ahí, pero también es increíblemente hermosa y te recompensa si te calmas un toque y prestas atención, es casi como meditar! Tienes que estar presente para apreciarla de verdad, igual que Hirayama tiene que estar presente para apreciar su vida.. esa conexión, ese reflejo entre el personaje y nosotros, creo que es lo que hace que la película sea tan potente, Koji Yakusho, ¿el actor que hace de Hirayama? ¡El tipo es un CRACK! Se ganó el premio al Mejor Actor en Cannes por este papel, y súper merecido.. casi no habla en toda la película, en serio, casi no hay diálogo.. pero transmite un montón solo con sus ojos, su forma de pararse, sus pequeños gestos. Entiendes todo sobre él sin que te lo explique.. está todo en lo que hace, en cómo reacciona, mostrar, no contar.
The film also has some really cool visual! Hirayama is always photographing trees, looking up, enjoying how the light filters through the leaves... the film makes it clear that these trees are not just for looking pretty, no, they are symbols of life, of beauty, of those wonderful things that surround us every day and that sometimes we don't see... the guy even collects little trees and takes care of them in his house! It's as if he were nourishing life itself, as if reflecting how he nourishes his own zest for life... there are also shadows and reflections... shadows of the trees, of the buildings, reflections in mirrors, in windows... it's like it constantly reminds you that you are present, that you are alive here and now, the film even tells you right away, that everything that is alive casts a shadow. It's a nice and subtle way of reinforcing those ideas of life and of being present.
And even the Tokyo Sky Tree, that giant skyscraper, is called "The Sky Tree", it's like a very modern, giant tree that rises above the city and connects us all, just as the real trees that Hirayama loves connect him with nature and with life. And apart from that, there are other characters that appear in Hirayama's life and that give more flavor to the story, there's his younger coworker, a totally chaotic guy, kind of lazy... he's like the opposite of Hirayama in every way, he's always late, he's disorganized, he chases girls... it's interesting to see how Hirayama interacts with him, there's a clash of generations there, the young man is obsessed with instant gratification, with short attention spans, with that accelerated life that the film criticizes a little. While he's focused on patience, routine, and enjoying the moment... then, out of nowhere, his niece appears. She's a girl full of life, with incredible energy, and she disrupts his routine, but in a beautiful way. You see him open up a little more, become more playful. Various factors try to change his routine or his life, but he always seeks the determination to find solutions.
La película también se tiene unos trucos visuales y simbólicos re-chéveres! Hirayama siempre está fotografiando árboles, mirando hacia arriba, disfrutando de cómo la luz se filtra entre las hojas.. la película te deja clarito que esos árboles no son solo para verse bonitos, no, son símbolos de la vida, de la belleza, de esas cosas maravillosas que nos rodean todos los días y que a veces no vemos.. hasta el tipo recoge arbolitos chiquitos y los cuida en su casa! Es como si estuviera nutriendo la vida misma, como reflejando cómo él alimenta su propio gusto por la vida.. también están las sombras y los reflejos.. sombras de los árboles, de los edificios, reflejos en los espejos, en las ventanas.. es como que a cada rato te recuerda que estás presente, que estás vivo aquí y ahora, la película hasta te lo dice directo en un momento, que todo lo que está vivo proyecta una sombra. Es una forma linda y sutil de reforzar esas ideas de la vida y de estar presente.
Y hasta el Tokyo Sky Tree, ese rascacielos gigante, se llama "Árbol del Cielo", es como un árbol modernísimo, gigante, que se levanta sobre la ciudad y nos conecta a todos, así como los árboles de verdad que Hirayama ama lo conectan con la naturaleza y con la vida.. Y aparte, hay otros personajes que van apareciendo en la vida de Hirayama y que le dan más saborcito a la historia, está su compañero de trabajo más joven, un tipo totalmente caótico, medio vago.. es como lo opuesto a Hirayama en todo sentido, siempre llega tarde, es desordenado, anda detrás de las chicas.. es interesante ver cómo este señor interactúa con él, hay un choque de generaciones ahí, el joven está obsesionado con la gratificación instantánea, con la atención cortita, con esa vida acelerada que la película critica un poquito. Mientras que él está enfocado en la paciencia, en la rutina, en disfrutar el momento.. después, así de la nada, aparece su sobrina.. es una niña llena de vida, con una energía increíble, y le desordena la rutina pero de una manera linda. Uno lo ve como que se abre un poco más, se pone más juguetón.. varios factores intentan cambiar su rutina o su vida, pero el siempre busca la determinación para encontrar soluciones.
Some might say that the film romanticizes poverty, because Hirayama’s life is simple, without luxuries or anything... but I don’t think it’s going that way at all, it’s not idealizing being poor, not at all! It’s giving value, to work, to any job... it shows you that one can find meaning and be happy even in the most humble job, and be careful, Hirayama is not a useful idiot... he’s calm, but he also stands up to him when he has to, when his boss wants to give him more work, he says no! He knows how far he’ll go... he’s not a pushover. Simply put... he's happy with what he has and enjoys what he does, and let's face it, "Perfect Days" isn't for everyone...
If you go in looking for explosions and flying cars, you're going to get bored, it's a slow burn, it requires patience... but if you dare to slow down, to be present, to really see and listen, it's a hugely rewarding experience, it's one of those movies that stays with you... it makes you think about your own life, your values, your own rhythm, it makes you wonder if you're really appreciating those "perfect days" that are already happening around you, each and every day... For me, it was close to being a perfect cinematic experience... let's see, that last half hour perhaps felt a little repetitive, like it went on a bit. But overall? Incredible... I'm giving it an 8.5/10, it's not perfect, watch it when you're in the mood to relax, to think, to just... be. Well, that's all for today. See you in other reviews. Algunos podrían decir que la peli romantiza la pobreza, porque la vida de Hirayama es sencilla, sin lujos ni nada.. pero yo no creo que vaya por ahí para nada, no está idealizando ser pobre, ¡para nada! Está dándole valor al trabajo, a cualquier trabajo.. te muestra que uno puede encontrarle sentido y ser feliz hasta en el trabajo más humilde, y ojo, que Hirayama no es ningún tonto útil.. es tranquilo, pero también se planta cuando tiene que hacerlo, cuando su jefe le quiere meter más trabajo, ¡le dice que no! Él sabe hasta dónde llega.. no es ningún pelele. Simplemente… está contento con lo que tiene y disfruta lo que hace, y a ver, seamos sinceros, "Perfect Days" no es para todo el mundo..
Si tú vas buscando explosiones y carros volando, te vas a aburrir demasiado, es de cocción lenta, requiere paciencia.. pero si te animas a bajar el ritmo, a estar presente, a realmente ver y escuchar, es una experiencia que te recompensa un montón, es de esas pelis que se te quedan.. te pone a pensar en tu propia vida, en tus valores, en tu propio ritmo, te hace preguntarte si de verdad estás apreciando esos "días perfectos" que ya están pasando a tu alrededor, todos y cada uno de los días.. Para mí, estuvo cerquita de ser una experiencia de cine perfecta.. a ver, esa última media hora quizás se sintió un poquito repetitiva, como que se estiró un pelín. ¿Pero en general? Increíbe.. le doy un 8.5/10, no es perfecta, veanla cuando estén con ganas de relajarse, de pensar, de simplemente… estar.
