A weekend has arrived that I have been looking forward to for years, in fact since 2012, when we performed Verdi's Requiem with Gustavo Dudamel at the Teatro Teresa Carreño. I fell in love with this composition and its powerful sound, but strangely we have not sung it again until 2025. We have already been working hard on it for a couple of weeks and this Sunday we will finally perform it, but now it is my turn to sing it as a tenor, unlike last time when I was still in the baritone range, and now the experience will be in the Aula Magna of the Universidad Central de Venezuela.
Ha llegado un fin de semana que he esperado por años, de hecho desde el 2012, cuando interpretamos el Réquiem de Verdi con Gustavo Dudamel en el Teatro Teresa Carreño. Me enamoré de esta composición y su potente sonido, pero extrañamente no la hemos vuelto a cantar hasta 2025. Ya tenemos un par de semanas trabajando duro en ello y este Domingo al fin la interpretaremos, pero ahora me toca cantar como tenor, a diferencia de la última vez que aún estaba en la cuerda de los barítonos, y ahora la experiencia será en el Aula Magna de la Universidad Central de Venezuela.
The two men with me in this photo are eminent in today's symphonic world. The gentleman is Maestro Massimiliano Bullo, our vocal coach for this production, a man who worked at the Teatro Alla Scala of Milan in Italy for many years, and the young man is the new promise of the orchestra conductors, Maestro Paolo Bortolameolli, an Italian Chilean musician who is becoming more and more relevant. It has been two intense weeks of rehearsals, mixed with other projects besides Verdi, but the work has been very pleasant, added to the emotion I feel to return to sing one of the best choral symphonic works ever written.
Los dos hombres que me acompañan en esta foto son una eminencia en el mundo sinfónico actual. El Señor es el Maestro Massimiliano Bullo, nuestro coach vocal para este montaje, un hombre que trabajo en el Teatro Alla Scala de Milán en Italia por muchos años y el joven es la nueva promesa de los directores de orquesta, el Maestro Paolo Bortolameolli, un músico chileno italiano que cada vez adquiere más relevancia. Han sido dos semanas intensas de ensayos, mezclados con otros proyectos además de Verdi, pero el trabajo ha sido muy grato, sumado a la emoción que siento de volver a cantar una de las mejores obras sinfónico corales que se han escrito.
The number of this video is the Rex Tremendae Majestatis, part of the second movement of Verdi's Requiem and was recorded by my wife from the seats. The four soloists belong to our choral group and we are accompanied by the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra on the stage of the Aula Magna. This is just a sample of what will be played this Sunday. El número de este video es el Rex Tremendae Majestatis, parte del segundo movimiento del Réquiem de Verdi y lo grabó mi esposa desde las butacas. Los cuatro solistas pertenecen a nuestra agrupación coral y nos acompaña la Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar en el escenario del Aula Magna. Esto solo es una muestra de lo que sonará este Domingo.
