I was checking the HBD interest earnings posted by DALZ today and noticed that lazy-panda had already staked 2.2 million HBD and was earning 27K HBD per month.
They started with about 1 million staked HBD, and people began asking questions like "What if they decide to cash out and sell everything, will not it dump Hive?"
Obviously, no one had ever seen anyone stake such a large amount of HBD before, and this raised concerns that they might go rogue one day and dump everything after six months, or that the user would become scared and panic and sell everything. It was a topic that was talked about for a few months, but the discussion gradually faded.
Guess what?
Over the course of two years, the lazy panda has doubled their HBD stake. If you think 2.2M is child's play, then think again. This is mad mega money, and even life-changing for a typical first-worlder. This sum was vested to earn that 15% APR, and they're not ghosts, they're here everyday, participating in Hive.
Of course, let us assume they are just business people who do not care about Hive and only want to make a profit. Should it matter? Not to me.
If I invest such a large sum in a business, I do not expect it to be for charitable purposes. After the 15% the witnesses have set for HBD, they have the option to maximize this to the fullest, and I believe they deserve all of the yields they have earned thus far.
There is no investment that does not come with any risk, and while HBD can be stable (at least 95% of the time), we cannot completely say that there are no risks, especially when the money at stake (pun intended) is $2.2 million.
Reward for Risk & Trust
However, $27k per month is a reward for trusting the system. No traditional bank, DEFI protocol, or stable coin will provide this, even if it is not a traditional stablecoin.
Although many people will argue that HBD is a peg on the price of Hive, we must also acknowledge that it provides significant utility to almost everyone on the chain.
For example, users will hedge their Hive on HBD to prevent further dumping, as well as to preserve value after a large pump.
HBD is a no-brainer, and lazypanda knows this too. They have decided to let their money work for them, and while many feared that lowering the APR from 20% to 15% would demotivate them to withdraw their stake, they have only doubled it.
Sticking to a playbook
These people are not gamblers, and you should know that. If they were, they would probably consider putting some of that yield into buying back Hive and hoping it performs well by the end of the bullrun.
However, I doubt they are interested in this and are most likely only interested in the yield. Their goal is probably to stick to their plans and generate a monthly yield.
Personally, I do not expect them to continue farming yields even after two years. (Perhaps it is because I echoed the thoughts of people who said they would leave after 6 months.)
I mean, they must have seen FUD posts about Hive, and all they have done is tighten their grip and increase their stake for more yield. These guys are the epitome of "putting your money where your mouth is". They are building in the midst of chaos, fear, doubt, and uncertainty, while others are mostly terrified and losing their minds.
It is incredible that these guys are still in the game, despite the fact that we never expected them to make such progress with their yield ventures. Perhaps they know something you don't, or are they simply financially independent and do not fear failure? I do not know.
Why did I talk about this?
I already tried to refrain from BULL posting or anything depressing, but then I came across DALZ's post today, only to still realize that lazypanda is still a household name in 2025. This post's information can be used for a variety of purposes, including motivation, entertainment, reflection, and more.
I just thought to post this, amidst the "it's over for Hive" narrative that's been recently flying. Is it just your mind, or does Hive now appear to be a lost cause? Is it a statement of reality, or is it simply an emotional state of mind brought on by the recent dumps?
