Hello everyone. Fang District, Chiang Mai Province, the district where me and my family currently live. I moved to this district about 6 - 7 years ago. This district is an old rural district and has an interesting history. And was the location of an ancient city in the past too. This ancient city is called Muang Fang. At current, some civilizations of the ancient city still remain in Fang District. Such as Fang city walls, temples and archaeological sites. In this post, I will introduce and take everyone to see the archaeological site in this district. This archaeological site is called Wiang Suttho Archaeological Site.
Wiang Suttho Archaeological Site is located at Wiang Subdistrict, Fang District, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. Open every day, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Traveling to this archaeological site. If you journey from Mueang Chiang Mai District. You have to journey on the highway 107 to go to Fang District. When you arrive at Fang District, continue on highway 107 to Wiang Subdistrict and the Wiang Suttho Archaeological Site.
On this Wiang Suttho Archaeological Site trip, I went with my wife. We journey from our home to this archaeological site. And these is some of the atmosphere of journey on the road to the Archaeological Site.
Wiang Suttho Archaeological Site does not have exact information on when it was built. It is assumed that it was built around over 300 - 400 years ago. This Wiang Suttho Archaeological Site is an ancient temple.Currently it has been renovated but there are still ruins and has monks staying at the temple.
Now inside this archaeological site there are only the ruins of a pagoda and a buddha image hall (viharn). The rest is newly built architecture and sculpture.
When we reach this archaeological site, we will see the temple wall. which is built like an ancient wall. The walls are made of bricks but not plastered with cement. And on the wall were many statues of white angels. Between the left and right entrances are two lion statues on the wall.
The nameplate of this archaeological site and temple are made from wood, with the top carved into the shape of an angel. But now the nameplate looks old.
When me and my wife walked into this place. We will see the remains of an ancient pagoda first, where now only the foundation and middle of the pagoda remain. The top of the pagoda collapsed.
As soon as we see this pagoda. We were impressed and fascinated by this ancient pagoda. And I felt like going turn back time to a past. The atmosphere and trees around the pagoda made me feel that way too. Do you think like me? This pagoda is approximately 10 meters high and the foundation has a diameter of approximately 19.50 meters. Take a look and enjoy.
When we walked past the pagoda. We saw the ruins of the buddha image hall (viharn). Now only the foundation of the buddha image hall (viharn) remains.
The buddha image hall (viharn) is made of bricks, approximately 19 meters wide and approximately 34 meters long.
Inside this archaeological site there are also a pavilion and newly built a building. Inside the pavilion and building there are many buddha statues.
In addition, inside the ancient site there are many newly created buddha statues and statues. Even though some statues look old with over time.
Finally, I’ll go on to most of the area around the archaeological site is shady with large trees.
