For this post, I dived into a TikTok video that many of you might have come across—the hilarious and oddly charming face-off between a real, scruffy baby bird and a plastic Angry Bird figure. The contrast between the two felt like it was screaming to be reimagined in my style. While creating this artwork, I couldn't help but giggle the entire time. It was a fun, lighthearted project that reminded me how much I enjoy giving personality to quirky moments.

Para esta ocasión, me sumergí en un video de TikTok que seguramente muchas personas han visto: el divertido y curiosamente encantador enfrentamiento entre un pajarito real, desaliñado y tierno, y una figura plástica del famoso Angry Bird. El contraste entre ambos me pareció irresistible y supe de inmediato que debía reinterpretarlo en mi estilo. Mientras lo creaba, no podía dejar de reírme. Fue un proyecto ligero, divertido, que me recordó cuánto disfruto darles personalidad a estas situaciones tan curiosas.
The video shows a tiny, fluffy bird chick standing eye-to-eye with a bold, plastic version of the iconic red Angry Bird. The chick is adorably ruffled, with oversized eyes and thin little legs that look slightly awkward—like it's still figuring out how to be a bird. The Angry Bird, on the other hand, stands proudly on its red pedestal with its trademark furrowed brow and puffed chest, looking unimpressed and intimidating. The silent tension between them is comedic gold.

Process / Proceso
I started with a loose sketch, focusing on capturing the essence of the confrontation. I made sure the baby bird looked timid yet curious, with fluffed feathers and expressive eyes. For the Angry Bird, I stuck closely to its original design but softened its shape a bit to match my anime-inspired approach. Their stance—facing off on the floor with a bit of tension—was key to the humor, so I played with their positioning until it felt just right.
Comencé con un boceto suelto, enfocándome en capturar la esencia del enfrentamiento. Me aseguré de que el pajarito se viera tímido pero curioso, con plumas esponjadas y ojos expresivos. Para el Angry Bird, mantuve su diseño original pero suavicé un poco las formas para que armonizara con el estilo anime que suelo trabajar. La postura enfrentada, sobre el suelo, con una tensión graciosa en el aire, era fundamental para el chiste visual, así que jugué bastante con la composición hasta que sentí que funcionaba.
Once the sketch felt solid, I moved to the line art. I kept the lines clean but dynamic, especially in the feathers of the chick, which needed to show volume and messiness. For Angry Bird, the lines were more controlled and bold to reflect its rigid and cartoonish form. I enjoyed the contrast here—it’s one of the details that makes the piece stand out.
Cuando el boceto estuvo listo, pasé al delineado. Mantuve las líneas limpias pero con dinamismo, especialmente en las plumas del polluelo, que necesitaban mostrar volumen y ese desorden adorable. Para el Angry Bird, opté por líneas más firmes y definidas, que reflejaran su forma rígida y caricaturesca. Disfruté mucho ese contraste; es uno de los detalles que, en mi opinión, hace que la pieza tenga personalidad.
Coloring was especially fun. I used soft, warm browns for the baby bird, giving it a natural and fuzzy appearance. The Angry Bird got its classic vivid red and yellow palette, but with gentle gradients to add more depth. Bringing them to life with color was incredibly satisfying—it’s always the moment the illustration starts breathing on its own.
El coloreado fue una parte muy divertida. Utilicé tonos marrones suaves y cálidos para el pajarito, logrando una apariencia natural y esponjosa. El Angry Bird recibió su clásica paleta de rojos y amarillos brillantes, pero apliqué degradados sutiles para darle más profundidad. Darles vida con color fue sumamente gratificante; siempre siento que es el momento en que la ilustración empieza a respirar por sí sola.
Then came the shadows. For the chick, I used delicate shading to keep the softness intact, while still giving it volume. I was careful to preserve its fragile and fluffy vibe. Angry Bird, on the other hand, got more pronounced, almost comic-like shading to keep its toy-like texture. This step added that extra sense of weight and presence.
Después vinieron las sombras. En el polluelo, apliqué sombreado suave para conservar su ternura, pero dándole suficiente volumen. Fui cuidadosa de no perder esa vibra frágil y esponjosa. En cambio, al Angry Bird le di sombras más marcadas, casi como en los cómics, para reforzar su textura plástica y sólida. Este paso añadió un extra de presencia y peso visual.
The highlights were subtle but essential. A bit of shine on Angry Bird’s surface emphasized its glossy plastic finish, while the baby bird got a gentle glint in its eye and a soft light along its fluffy feathers. These touches really made both characters pop and brought the moment to life.
Los brillos fueron sutiles pero fundamentales. Añadí reflejos sobre la superficie del Angry Bird para acentuar su acabado plástico brillante, mientras que al pajarito le di un pequeño destello en el ojo y una luz suave sobre las plumas. Estos toques ayudaron a que ambos personajes destacaran aún más y que la escena cobrara vida.
Finally, I kept the background minimal: a simple floor and soft gradient wall to keep the focus entirely on the two characters. The lighting and shadows on the ground helped ground the figures without taking attention away from their expressive confrontation.
Finalmente, decidí un fondo minimalista: un suelo sencillo y una pared con degradado suave, para que toda la atención se centrara en los personajes. La iluminación y las sombras sobre el piso ayudaron a darles base y realismo, sin distraer de su divertido enfrentamiento.
Creating "Bird vs Angry Bird" was a delightful and refreshing experience. Sometimes, the simplest internet moments can spark the most joyful creations. It reminded me that inspiration doesn't always have to come from epic stories—it can come from a baby bird and a plastic toy staring each other down.
