I know we are not in the Christmas season but I wanted to see Red One from 2024, well I don't always see the movies at the right time, the truth is that I was looking for something on the internet and I read that it cost about 250 million dollars, as this caught my attention so much I had to see how it was but the result was meh. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans and has a mix of Christmas action, it looks like something from Mission Impossible with the spirit of Christmas but the end result is not very good and although it is not bad it is not something I will recommend. Santa Claus is played by JK Simmons who is kidnapped by a Christmas witch and his head of security, played by The Rock has to ally with a somewhat cheeky bounty hunter who is Chris Evans, all this they do to save Christmas. Maybe if I tell you it seems all normal but in reality it is not so it is as if they had taken several scripts and mixed them in a blender without thinking about how it would all fit together, then this makes the film wants to fit into all genres like being a family movie, comedy and action but fails to do so for many things, the fight scenes look too much computer.
Se que no estamos en temporada navideña pero quise ver Red One de 2024, bueno no siempre veo las películas en su momento, lo cierto es que estaba buscando algo en internet y leí que costó unos 250 millones de dólares, como esto me llamó tanto la atención tenía que ver que tal era pero el resultado fue meh. La película es protagonizada por Dwayne Johnson y Chris Evans y tiene una mezcla de acción navideña, parece algo de Misión Imposible con el espíritu de la navidad pero el resultado final no es muy bueno y aunque no es malaaa tampoco es algo que vaya a recomendar. Santa Claus es interpretado por JK Simmons que es secuestrado por una bruja navideña y su jefe de seguridad, interpretado por The Rock se tiene que aliar con un cazarrecompensas algo descarado que es Chris Evans, todo esto lo hacen para salvar la Navidad. Quizás si te lo cuento parece todo normal pero en realidad no es así es como si hubieran tomado varios guiones y los hubieran mezclado en una licuadora sin pensar en cómo encajaría todo, entonces esto hace que la película quiera encajar en todos los géneros como ser una película familiar, de comedia y acción pero no lo logra por muchas cosas, las escenas de pelea se ven demasiado de computadora.

Santa Claus is not just the typical old fat guy we know, here he is a super athletic guy who trains as if he were a secret agent and I liked this a lot because it is something different, but the film goes off on a tangent by putting a whole story about secret organizations that protect mythological creatures and a whole hidden world that exists parallel to ours. On the technical side you can tell the budget is inflated because although there are some visual effects that look impressive there are also sequences where the CGI looks cheap for a production of this caliber, more in the action scenes where everything is pixelated and it is difficult to distinguish what exactly is happening, like that scene at the North Pole that appears at the beginning of the film that seems as if it is completely disconnected from reality. And the direction didn't really hit it either, even though Jake Kasdan directed good movies like Jumanji here it seems like he doesn't know how to balance so many things and most of the time the movie feels like it's on autopilot. The most frustrating thing for me is that the film throws in interesting concepts like Krampus and a whole Christmas mythology but then doesn't really do anything creative with that and rather uses them as an excuse for action sequences and not to explore deeper themes.
Santa Claus no es solo el típico viejito gordo que conocemos, aquí es un tipo súper atlético que se entrena como si fuera un agente secreto y esto me gustó bastante porque es algo diferente, pero la película se va por la tangente metiendo todo un cuento sobre organizaciones secretas que protegen criaturas mitológicas y todo un mundo oculto que existe paralelo al nuestro. En la parte técnica se nota el presupuesto está inflado porque aunque hay algunos efectos visuales que se ven impresionantes también hay secuencias donde el CGI se ve barato para una producción de este calibre, más en las escenas de acción donde todo se pixela y es difícil distinguir qué está pasando exactamente, como esa escena en el Polo Norte que aparece al principio de la película que parece como si está completamente desconectada de la realidad. Y la dirección tampoco la pegó mucho, aunque Jake Kasdan dirigió películas buenas como Jumanji aquí pareciera que no sabe equilibrar tantas cosas y la mayoría del tiempo la película es como si estuviera en piloto automático. Lo más frustrante para mí es que la película mete conceptos interesantes como Krampus y toda una mitología navideña pero luego no hace nada realmente creativo con eso y más bien los usa como una excusa para las secuencias de acción y no para explorar temas más profundos.

JK Simmons does a good job as Santa the bad thing is that he gets kidnapped very early in the movie and spends most of the time unconscious or absent. Dwayne Johnson plays Callum Drift and he looks like the character he always does a serious, muscular guy who takes everything too seriously and while Johnson is charismatic by nature, here his performance is automatic and lifeless, like he's just fulfilling a contract and that's it. Chris Evans does what he can because this role asks him to react with sarcasm to everything fantastic going on around him and while he has a talent for comedy the script feels more like he doesn't have enough material to work with and his character is more to set up the plot than a real person.
JK Simmons hace un buen trabajo como Santa lo malo es que lo secuestran muy temprano en la película y pasa la mayor parte del tiempo inconsciente o ausente. Dwayne Johnson interpreta a Callum Drift y se parece al personaje que siempre hace un tipo serio y musculoso que toma todo demasiado en serio y aunque Johnson es carismático por naturaleza, aquí su actuación es automática y sin vida, como si estuviera cumpliendo con un contrato y ya. Chris Evans hace lo que puede porque este papel le pide que reaccione con sarcasmo a todo lo fantástico que sucede a su alrededor y aunque tiene talento para la comedia el guión parece más bien que no tiene suficiente material para trabajar y su personaje es más para armar la trama que una persona real.

The bad guy in the movie is Kiernan Shipka who has a lot of potential but they failed to tap into it and the transformation of her character into a giant CGI monster for the final battle is the most trite decision they could have had, because instead of having a more personal and intimate confrontation it's a special effects fight that has no emotional weight to it at all. It also has problems with humor and pacing, it's too long in some parts and too fast in others and almost at the end everything is resolved too conveniently and quickly. What I did like is when it focuses on the father son relationship between Evans' character and his son, they are a few moments that if they had been used better the film could have had a more focused approach and more potential.
La mala de la película es Kiernan Shipka que tiene mucho potencial pero no supieron aprovecharlo y la transformación de su personaje en un monstruo CGI gigante para la batalla final es la decisión más trillada que pudieron tener, porque en lugar de tener una confrontación más personal e íntima es una pelea de efectos especiales que no tiene nada de peso emocional. También tiene problemas con el humor y con el ritmo, es demasiado larga en algunas partes y muy rápida en otras ya casi terminando todo se resuelve demasiado conveniente y rápido. Lo que si me gustó es cuando se enfoca en la relación padre hijo entre el personaje de Evans y su hijo, son unos pocos momentos que si se hubieran aprovechado mejor la película podría haber tenido con un enfoque más centrado y mayor potencial.

For me Red One could have been a good movie but it got lost and resukltó an experience with an empty emotional part, my score is 6/10, I don't see it xcomo a family entertainment but I do see it as an expensive experiment hehehe, the acting of Evans and Simmons are very good and but the plot does not help and is quickly forgotten. The good things we see Evans who is cute and Simmons playing Santa gymrat, the bad things the CGI looks like it's from my grandmother's time and the plot is convoluted. I think Red One was just another Hollywood movie to fill a space in the theaters during the Christmas season and with that amount of money they spent there they could have made ten better movies, this is a shame for the talent involved but well what do you do.
Para mí Red One pudo haber sido una buena película pero se perdió y resukltó una experiencia con una parte emocional vacía, mi puntuación es 6/10, no la veo xcomo un entretenimiento familiar pero si la veo como un experimento costoso jejeje, la actuación de Evans y Simmons son muy buenas y pero la trama no ayuda y se olvida rápido. Las cosas buenas vemos a Evans que es guapo y a Simmons haciendo de Santa gymrat, lo malo el CGI parece de la época de mi abuela y la trama es enredada. Yo creo que Red One fuee una peli más de Hollywood para llenar un espacio en los cines durante la época navideña y con esa cantidad de plata que gastaron allí pudieron haber hecho diez películas mejores, esto es una lástima por el talento que está involucrado pero bueno que se hace.
