In low mana battles do you tend to try to put in as many monsters in formation as possible or do you try to put in the least amount with higher stats?
I do both and it really depends on what rule sets are in play. In the snapshot above is a match where the mana was a low 15. The rule sets were only odd number mana cards allowed and no toughness.
How I would performed would be in question as I was facing an uphill battle with monster count here at four against my two.
By then end of the first round it was now two on two and I clearly had the upper hand. This was because both my monsters have more health than all my opponent's monsters combined. In addition I had higher attacking stats. The Haunted Spirit was a perfect tanker as it held off all the attacks while inflicting damage in my opponent's formation.
Battle ended swiftly as I was able to knock out my opponent in two rounds. It was basically four of my attacks in those two rounds and each attack knocking out one of my opponent's monsters. You could say this was the best possible outcome for me. If you want to watch the battle here is the link:

In conclusion there are times that having less monsters is better than more. When that happens really depends on the player's decision. I lean towards using rule sets toward my advantage, but in low mana matches it is easier to focus on filling in the holes of a formation by putting in low mana monsters. It is not to say low mana monsters are a bad thing. On the contrary it is just one of many other ways to play the game to win.
I leave with another fight where I did the same but I did not have a win. In the snapshot above I was playing with a smaller formation but was unable to withstand my opponent's attacks and ended up losing. I had picked a similar formation as my first match shown, but I had not accounted for my opponent's better defense that basically outlasted my formation. Goes to show not one way of playing will always bring success. If you are curious how the water splinter battle ended up here is the link:
