It is not a new to me when i hear people say that young people are not really given the chance in the leadership post and many do say that because they believe the ability to think as a leader might not be there and also the experience which the elderly ones will have in leadership post will surely be different. Now in my own perspective i do not really think it is applied everywhere . Looking at the fact that many believe some will misuse the opportunity given to them as a young personalities in leadership post. I've been told various occasions that age is a limitation to some post which i won't deny because the fact that a young adult has not been elected in my country as a president before.
The believe of inexperienced set in and now i am talking in the music line. A group of chorister which will surely involve different age range and we have those who are big enough to be ones parent. So imagine having a youth as a music director in that kind of gathering, then there are some big qualities which the young music director should always portray so he will be cherished and respected no matter the age. Age is not detriment and as a music director what qualify and earn you the respect which people won't even look at your age. What earn you the respect is the passion and also the zeal and impact you made as a director in the choir, changing the perspective and taste of music in a choir setting is really a big one.
Now understanding deep in music is the biggest way to earn your respect. Just like the church which i am currently the Music director of and i can say most people in that gathering are elderly people and being the Music director i did a lot of things which i knew that without talking, the respect will surely come and that was when i attended the first rehearsal of the church and i heard the way they sang a classical piece and i quickly figured out that most of them were singing a wrong note, first they were surprised that i was able to find their mistakes to the song which i have not heard before and that was the begining of the respect. As a young leader, there should always be confidence in all what you do seeing the fact you are in the gathering of older people and they would want to find fault.
So the confidence will make them give you that accolades, now apart from the confidence as a young music director, one should be able to have a good communication skills and be able to relate information to others in a friendly manner and that do not mean you should be taken for granted for what you know how to do best. Age is not a barrier for leadership post and just like me which i believe I'm doing well in my roles and i bringing new ideas to the table. Age doesn't structure the ability to lead but determination and the willingness is the key..
