Hello, my dear travelers, today I have the pleasure of introducing you to a very important place for all Cubans. This is the Our Lady of Charity Shrine, or Our Lady of Charity of Copper, as we call it.
If you visit Havana, you can't miss this beautiful temple, located in a neighborhood very close to the National Capitol, making it easy to get there.
Visiting this sacred site is very important because you will be able to learn about one of Cuba's traditions through faith in Our Lady of Charity of Copper, the patron saint of Cuba.
Every Cuban venerates this Virgin, regardless of their faith; they may be Catholics, Afro-Cuban Santeros, or simply believe in Our Lady of Charity.
History tells us that in 1612, three men in a canoe along the northeastern coast of Nipe Bay spotted a floating object. It was the image of the Virgin on a tablet that read "I am the Virgin of Charity." They rescued her and built a shrine of guano leaves and planks. From then on, she became a symbol of faith. Years later, her shrine was built on top of a hill very close to the copper mines of Santiago de Cuba.
Faith in this Virgin spread throughout the nation, so in 1913, this church in Havana was consecrated to her, and in 1916, Pope Benedict XV proclaimed her Patron Saint of Cuba.
The color yellow is attributed to her, which is why the facades of her churches are painted this color, which transmits energy and is a symbol of life and fertility.
It is a simple yet majestic church. Its façade is very beautiful, with a square tower with large windows, and a beautifully decorated arch at the central entrance that reads "Diocesan Sanctuary of Our Lady of Charity." Its door is large and made of precious wood, and there are several identical doors on both sides of the interior of the church.
To the right, very close to the entrance, is the altar of Our Lady of Charity, where the faithful offer flowers, mostly sunflowers, and lighted candles.
Upon entering, we can appreciate the beautiful construction. Its interior is composed of three naves. In the central nave are the pews where the faithful sit and pray. The pews have padded kneelers for comfort when kneeling to offer their prayers. On the sides, there are several beautifully arranged altars.
The good lighting is surprising, as natural light enters through the large doors, windows and oculi distributed throughout the sanctuary. And also for the beautiful, colorful stained-glass windows depicting biblical figures. In addition, the large octagonal dome has a total of eight windows, allowing for excellent lighting.

Santuario Nuestra Señora de la Caridad en La Habana
Hola mis estimados viajeros, hoy tengo el placer de presentarles un lugar muy importante para todos los cubanos. Se trata del Santuario Nuestra Señora de la Caridad o la Virgen de la Caridad del cobre como le llamamos.
Si visitas La Habana no puedes dejar de conocer este hermoso templo que se encuentra en un barrio muy cerca del Capitolio Nacional, por tanto, te será fácil llegar hasta allí.
Visitar este sitio sagrado es muy importante porque podrás conocer de cerca una de las tradiciones cubanas a través de la fe a la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre que es la santa Patrona de Cuba.
Todo cubano venera a esta virgen sin importar la creencia que profesa, pueden ser católicos o santeros afrocubanos o simplemente solo creer en la Virgen de la Caridad.
La historia nos narra que en 1612 tres hombres en canoa por la costa norte oriental de la bahía de Nipe avistaron un objeto flotando, era la imagen de la Virgen sobre una tablilla que decía Yo soy la Virgen de la Caridad, la rescataron y construyeron un santuario de hojas de guano y tablas, a partir de ahí se convirtió en un símbolo de fe. Años más tarde se construyó su santuario en la cima de una loma muy cerca de las minas de cobre de Santiago de Cuba.
La fe en esta Virgen se fue propagando en toda la nación por lo que en 1913 se le consagró esta iglesia en La Habana y desde 1916 el papa Benedicto XV la proclamó Patrona de Cuba.
Se le atributa el color amarillo por eso la fachada de sus iglesias se pintan de este color que transmite energía y es símbolo de vida y fertilidad.
Es una iglesia sencilla pero majestuosa al mismo tiempo. Su fachada es muy hermosa, tiene una torre cuadrada con ventanales y en la entrada en su parte central tiene un arco bellamente decorado donde se puede leer Santuario Diocesano de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad. Su puerta es grande y de madera preciosa, también posee varias puertas iguales en ambos laterales del interior del templo.
A la derecha, muy cerca de la entrada está el altar de la virgen de la Caridad donde los fieles le ofrendan flores, girasoles en su mayoría y velas encendidas.
Al entrar podemos apreciar la belleza constructiva, su interior está compuesto por 3 naves, en la nave central están los bancos donde los fieles se sientan y oran, los bancos cuentan con los reclinatorios acolchados para su comodidad cuando se arrodillan para realizar sus oraciones. En los laterales hay varios altares bellamente dispuestos.
Es sorprendente la buena iluminación que tiene debido a que la luz natural entra por las amplias puertas, ventanas y óculos que están distribuidos por todo el santuario. Y también por los hermosos vitrales muy coloridos que contienen figuras bíblicas. Además, la gran cúpula octogonal tiene un total de 8 ventanas permitiendo una iluminación excelente.
