It is official, with the impending release of Yaba's Pickle, splinterlands will be entering meme territory, and I am here for it. This is not just a novelty card drop, but also tapping into meme hype while using the community to build engagement. So let us unpack why this is way more than just a card with a funny name.
Yaba's Pickle Is Not Just a Gag
At first glance, Yaba's Pickle might just feel like another promo card that splinterlands is releasing with some new raffle mechanics. But under the promo veneer lies a clear objective: stir up community hype, introduce new raffle mechanics, and drive deeper player and social media participation across the splinterlands ecosystem and social media landscape.
We've seen meme coins like Fartcoin and countless others rocket to multi-million dollar valuations with zero utility this past crypto bull market. And with a name like Yaba's Pickle, why can't it be the same as meme coins? Plus, Yaba's Pickle has actual NFT utility inside the splinterlands ecosystem -- battles, Land, and market. It's endless, and it blows my mind that the community does not understand this aspect about splinterlands NFTs.
Three Ways to Get the Pickle
There are three primary ways to secure a copy of Yaba's Pickle, each offering a different option on community engagement and token utility. This has all been stated in the official announcement post, but for the uninformed:
- SPS Stakeholders Sale\
If you have got SPS staked, you are in. Each 1k SPS staked earns you the right to purchase one regular foil Yaba's Pickle for 150 DEC or Credits. Players who are involved in splinterlands with a long-term mindset will directly benefit from their staked SPS. - Gold Foil Raffle\
Seven days after the initial sale ends, you will be able to craft raffle tickets with Aura, Vouchers, and DEC. Each ticket guarantees you a regular foil Yaba's Pickle and a chance to win one of fifty exclusive Gold Foil Arcane cards. There are a lot of moving pieces in splinterlands, and I had to go read up on what Aura is, as I didn't get involved in the Conclave Arcane pre-sale/general sale, but here is a splinterlands FAQ about Aura. - Black Foil Arcane Auction\
The final leg of the event is a straight-up bidding war, which will require Aura, Vouchers, and DEC to be burnt to craft Auction Points, then throw them into a 25-hour rotating auction for one of 20 Black Foil Arcane cards. The highest bidder wins the mint. We saw how FOMO became real with the ending of the Conclave Arcana pre-sale, and the splinterlands team needs to capitalize and go all out with promoting this auction.
Meme Coin Vibes
This whole thing feels like the perfect blend of crypto meme culture and actual NFT utility. Yes, the card is funny. Yes, it is absurd. But this is just another new splinterlands card drop, as it does a few very smart things:
- It creates new token sinks for DEC, Aura, and Vouchers.
- It stimulates marketplace activity via tradable raffle tickets and auction points.
- It rewards SPS staking by giving early access based on your staked SPS.
Most meme coins have zero utility, zero backing, and have still managed to create multi-million market caps based on nothing but memes, degens and community engagement. Now contrast that with Yaba's Pickle: not only does it tap into the same meme coin energy, but it also rewards players with a playable card, token burns, flywheel effects, and a shot at exclusive foils with long-term collector appeal.
The splinterlands team needs to double down on a social media campaign across the different social media outlets. Get influencers involved and make this promo card go viral. I am not a community manager, but from seeing how other companies or tokens do it, community AMAs, meme contests. This promo card launch needs to be blown out of all proportion!

The new Yaba's Pickle promo card has all the potential for splinterlands to attract more players to splinterlands and not just its existing player base. It has a meme coin virality to it, and as we know, 99% of meme coins are a fraud, but this NFT card has more utility than most.
