My recent visit to this tropical paradise was not all about surfing, it was self discovering trip, relaxation and environmental touch. It is a reflection of what actually happened with me the times when I was in the beaches of Siargao.
As I went off the boat and onto the sandy beaches of the island of Siargao, warm sun and gentle sound of waves crashing against the sand almost immediately grabbed me. It was a nice setting where it was at the beach, a fine white sand, and turquoise blue waters. I was all of a sudden in a post card. My heartbeat was rapid as I knew that I was going to have not any adventure but the one that would eternally leave some marks on my memory.
It took the first few days of me just taking in the beauty of the surroundings. I found a closed street, some palm tree under which the wind would blow my skin cool. I still liked to waste the time because I was holding my book in my hand and the ocean seemed my background. Solidity of the beach allowed me to feel relaxed and forget about life stresses. The sound of turning the pages was never without the pleasurable connections of the nature, so the combo was outstanding, and it would be very hard to get the same connection in the other location.
I would add that exploration of various beaches that the Siargao island offers was also one of the best things I experienced during my trip. I also visited Cloud 9 that happens to be a popular destination because of its surf breaks. Even though I had not been to surfing, it was a thrilling experience on watching the good surfers as they exchanged their turn in the waters. The enthusiasm and energy showed by the surfers was quite contagious such that I cheered the surfers on and also became a good neighbour to other people on the beach. It was a reminder of joy of doing what you like.
The other thing that I cannot forget is a visit to the Naked Island and the Daku Island with boat tour. This trip was not devoid of the jokes and new acquaintances as we were sharing the impressions and spent the wonderful time during the trip with the fantastic sceneries. In Naked Island, we were decorated with a clean white sand and emptiness and this is the complete contrast of the green landscape in Siargao. We swam, basked on the sun, even had a nice picnic prepared by our guides; these occupied us some hours. It was a simple day, a refreshing day and it gave me a memory of these simple beauties of living in the moment.
As the sun began to go down I could see one of the most beautiful sunsets that I have ever witnessed. The skies have become abstract art paintings in shades of orange, pinks and purples that have all made beautiful reflections on the water. I was happy that I was able to see such a natural beauty. It was the time of thinking and it awakened in me how important it was not to be in a big rush sometimes and take a glance at those little things that life has to propose.
My visit to Siargao was not a vacation but a chance of coming back to self and nature. The island had calm beaches which gave me a break of the hustles and bustles of life with which I could rest and be relaxed. I did not only emerge out of Siargao with some souvenirs but also with peace and appreciation to the wonders of nature. It is indeed one place that will always remain close to my heart and this is one slice of heaven that I can not wait to visit again.
