France is famous for many things. The list is very long and it includes their history, culture, art, fashion and cusine amongst others. A few vacations ago, my children would tell you that France is famous for croissant, crepes and baguettes. Indeed the patisserie is tasty and the variety is quite large and overwhelming but most often of high quality.

One of France’s famous and wonderful vacation location is Biarritz. Finding numerous patisseries or ice cream places there, was not a surprise. We visited the 19th century Miremont Pâtisserie Salon de Thé.

We had a chance to enjoy, the original vanilla ice cream, for the first time. If you purchase a vanilla pod or the essence, you will notice it is black in colour. However, the ice-cream you buy is never black, so finding the original ice-cream was very special.

The ice-cream was delicious and taste similar but tastier than the current cream coloured vanilla ice-cream. I eagerly begun to eat this novel ice-cream - hence this is my best photo of it.

An additional nice surprise for us, was finding an evening street market which was totally buzzing with people.

One could purchase literally everything from this street market - clothes, shoes, household items etc. What stood out - was the large variety of sweet treats.

I think every sweet from around the world could be found here. The nougat stands were very impresssive.

They were very generous with sharing samples for tasting as well.

Of course, there were crepes of every variety as well.

There was a small crowd - so we stopped to figure out what was happening. At first one could mistakenly think that it is crepe making. It was not. It was hand-made rolled ice cream. It was a special find for us as we'd never had hand-made rolled ice cream before.

We were fascinated with the process and enjoyed watching it being made. Well actually, that was the only way you could get one, as its made when ordered. It was possible to choose from a variety of flavours and toppings as well.

It was very delicious; this is a photo from the video of the finished product.

Here is a 15 second gif of the making.

Have you ever had rolled ice-cream? What did you think?
