After exploring the walkways of Vizela (surrounded by nature, with the sound of the river accompanying each step) we decided to head to the city center, to find a quiet place to rest and enjoy the local atmosphere. We found Praça da República, the true heart of Vizela.

Depois de explorar os passadiços de Vizela (rodeados pela natureza, com o som do rio a acompanhar cada passo ) decidimos seguir para o centro da cidade, para encontrar um lugar calmo para descansar e apreciar o ambiente local. Encontramos a Praça da República, o verdadeiro coração de Vizela.
It is a large, pleasant space full of life. Surrounded by cafes, small shops and trees that provide shade on hotter days, Praça da República is the ideal place to rest. In the center, there are benches where we can sit and watch the people, the birds or simply enjoy the moment.

É um espaço amplo, agradável e cheio de vida. Rodeada por cafés, pequenos comércios e árvores que oferecem sombra nos dias mais quentes, a Praça da República é o local ideal para descansar. No centro, há bancos onde podemos ficar a observar o movimento das pessoas, os pássaros ou simplesmente apreciar o momento.
One of the elements that stands out in the square is, without a doubt, the statue of Vizela Romana. Full of meaning, this sculpture pays homage to the city's ancient history, which dates back to Roman times. Serene and firm, it symbolizes the deep connection that Vizela maintains with its past. In fact, everything in the square seems to tell a story, from the typical street shoes to the architectural details of the buildings.

Um dos elementos que se destaca na praça é, sem dúvida, a estátua da Vizela Romana. Cheia de significado, esta escultura presta homenagem à história ancestral da cidade, que remonta ao tempo dos romanos. Serena e firme, simboliza a ligação profunda que Vizela mantém com o seu passado. Aliás, tudo na praça parece contar uma história, desde o calçado típico das ruas até aos detalhes arquitetónicos dos edifícios.
But it was an unexpected element that enchanted our daughter the most: an old red telephone booth, right there, in plain sight. In a world full of cell phones and video calls, this little vestige of times gone by piqued his curiosity. He walked over, peeked inside, and with a mischievous smile, asked to make a call. We happened to have some coins in our pockets, which doesn't happen that often these days :-)

Mas foi um elemento inesperado que mais encantou a nossa filha: uma antiga cabine telefónica vermelha, mesmo ali, à vista de todos. Num mundo repleto de telemóveis e videochamadas, este pequeno vestígio de outros tempos despertou a sua curiosidade. Aproximou-se, espreitou para dentro e, com um sorriso maroto, pediu para fazer uma chamada. Por acaso tínhamos algumas moedas no bolso, o que hoje em dia já não acontece com tanta frequência :-)
With some help, we explain how to use the old phone: insert the coin, pick up the receiver and dial the number. And the most fun idea of the day came up! I wanted to call my grandmother… to play a trick on her! With the most serious look in the world, and trying to disguise his voice, he pretended to be someone else. On the other side, the grandmother took a few seconds to understand what was happening, but when she finally recognized her granddaughter, there was a lot of laughter. Both for her and for us who were watching from outside the cabin.

Com alguma ajuda, explicamos como usar o telefone antigo: inserir a moeda, levantar o auscultador e marcar o número. E surgiu a ideia mais divertida do dia! Quis ligar à avó… para lhe pregar uma partida! Com o ar mais sério do mundo, e tentando disfarçar a voz, fez-se passar por outra pessoa. Do outro lado, a avó demorou alguns segundos a perceber o que se passava, mas quando finalmente reconheceu a neta, as gargalhadas foram muitas. Quer para ela, como para nós que assistíamos do lado de fora da cabine.
It was a simple moment, but one that she will remember and that reminded us of the times when calling from a phone booth was part of everyday life. For our daughter, it was a fun and different debut.

Foi um momento simples, mas que ela vai recordar e que nos fez recordar a nós os tempos em que telefonar de uma cabine era parte do quotidiano. Para a nossa filha, foi uma estreia divertida e diferente.
Afterwards, we sat down on a terrace, ordered some cold drinks and stayed there for a while longer, enjoying the life in the square and the relaxed atmosphere of Vizela.
We ended this visit in style and hope to return there.

Depois sentámo-nos numa esplanada, pedimos umas bebidas frescas e deixámo-nos ficar ali mais um pouco, a apreciar a vida da praça e o ambiente descontraído de Vizela.
Terminamos em grande esta visita e esperamos lá voltar.
