🌉 Event Overview / Descripción del Evento

I once had the chance to attend a national sports event called “Puente a Puente” as an independent photographer. It took place in the city where I currently live — Valdivia, Chile. The event gathers swimmers from all over the country to swim from one bridge to another, a distance of about 1.5 kilometers.

Tuve la oportunidad de asistir como fotógrafo independiente a un evento deportivo nacional llamado "Puente a Puente", realizado en la ciudad donde actualmente vivo: Valdivia, Chile. Este evento reúne a nadadores de todo el país para cruzar nadando de un puente a otro, una distancia de aproximadamente 1.5 kilómetros.
🚶 Getting There / Camino al Evento

When I heard about the event, I didn’t hesitate. I grabbed my camera and took a microbus to the venue. I started at the check-in area, watching the athletes and analyzing the finish zone. Then, I walked to the starting point, where athletes were being transported by bus.

Cuando me enteré del evento, no lo dudé. Tomé mi cámara y me subí a un microbús rumbo al lugar. Comencé en la zona de check-in, observando a los atletas y analizando el área de llegada. Luego caminé hasta el punto de salida, donde los atletas eran trasladados en bus.

I spent the whole event capturing moments. My goal was to photograph from unique angles, sometimes running to get a better position. I’ll share those professional camera photos in another post. This one shows the experience from my phone's perspective.

☀️ The Atmosphere / El Ambiente

The day was sunny and vibrant. The event started around 3 PM, with athletes full of energy, excitement in the air, and people cheering. Honestly, it made me want to join, but I wasn’t ready at that time. Now I believe I could participate in open-water swimming events like this.

El día estaba soleado y vibrante. El evento comenzó alrededor de las 3 PM, con atletas llenos de energía, emoción en el ambiente y gente animando. Sinceramente, me dieron ganas de participar, aunque no estaba listo. Ahora sí creo que podría participar en eventos de natación en aguas abiertas como este.
