Hello, lovers of black and white photography.
Today I bring you a series of images captured during an unexpected trip, one of those journeys that ends up teaching you more than you imagined. These photos were taken back in 2019 with a Canon XTi and a 70-300mm lens I had owned for less than two months. I was still getting used to it… and still getting used to myself as a photographer.
It all started on a bus heading from Pinar del Río to Havana.
I spent most of the trip shooting through the window. No tripod, no preparation, no fancy setup. Just the moment, intuition, and the need to freeze what was flying past me: resting horses, lonely trees, power lines cutting across the sky.
When I arrived in Havana, I didn’t go straight home.
I got off at the bridge on 100th Street and walked all the way to my neighborhood, camera in hand, alert to anything else that might speak to me through light and shape. It was a long walk, but full of scenes worth capturing.
I now share these images in black and white, because that’s how I lived them: raw, real, without distractions.
This series reflects not just a physical journey, but also a stretch of personal growth.
A visual sketch done on the move.
With all their imperfections and truths, these photos are a part of my story as a photographer.
Thanks for coming along on this journey, one that began through a bus window… and still hasn’t ended.
