¡Saludos, a todos mis queridos cinéfilos! Si hay un género cinematográfico que me encante sin importar qué, es el de romance de época. Sin miramientos o buscar reseñas anteriores, lo voy a ver porque simplemente me fascina, no me interesan las puntuaciones ni los comentarios que puedan hacer otros críticos. No soy nada parcial cuando de este género se trata. Y este es el caso de esta serie de Netflix que vengo a reseñarles el día de hoy: Manual para señoritas.

Greetings, all my dear cinephiles! If there's one genre of film that I love no matter what, it's period romance. Without looking at it or looking for previous reviews, I'm going to see it because it simply fascinates me, I don't care about ratings or comments other critics may make. I am not biased at all when it comes to this genre. And this is the case of this Netflix series that I come to review for you today: Manual para señoritas.
En el año 1880, las señoritas Mencías pierden a su madre y quedan a cargo de su padre. Además del luto, el Sr. Mencías tiene una gran preocupación, tiene que casar a sus hijas, y al menos dos están en edad de contraer nupcias. Como no sabe como hacerlo, contrata un servicio bastante común para la época: una carabina o dama de compañía. Las carabinas se encargaban de conseguir marido para las señoritas casaderas, además de cuidar a estas muchachas mientras asistían a todos los eventos sociales para conocer hombres.
En esta serie española, nuestra heroína es una carabina. Elena, protagonizada por Nadia de Santiago, es la mejor carabina de la ciudad y soltera como todas, pero queda flechada a primera vista por el Sr. Santiago, protagonizado por Álvaro Mel. Este escritor es un amigo muy allegado de la familia, y el interés romántico de la mayor de las Mencías, quien debe casarse lo más rápido posible por un desliz que tuvo en el primer capítulo.
Este show me lo devoré rápidamente, aunque después de ver el primer capítulo, casi tiro la toalla. Al ser el primer capítulo, un piloto, los creadores intentan poner un signo distintivo del resto de los shows que estamos acostumbrados a ver. Quisieron hacerlo un poco más punk con el uso de la música y del rompimiento de la cuarta pared, pero estaban abusando de estos recursos a tal grado que me estaba pareciendo abrumador, desde mi punto de visto. Por fortuna, aunque no dejaron de utilizarlos, porque al fin y al cabo es un buen recurso, en el resto de la temporada suavizaron mucho el uso de estos, haciendo mucho más placentera la experiencia y disfrutando de estos.

I devoured this show quickly, although after watching the first episode, I almost threw in the towel. Being the first chapter, a pilot, the creators try to put a distinctive sign from the rest of the shows we are used to watching. They wanted to make it a little more punk with the use of music and the breaking of the fourth wall, but they were abusing these resources to such a degree that I was finding it overwhelming. From my point of view. Fortunately, although they didn't stop using them, because at the end of the day it's a good resource, in the rest of the season they softened the use of them a lot. This made the experience much more pleasant and enjoyable.
Aunque sé que ya existe Bridgertone, y que esta pueda evocar (o copiar) el éxito de la serie Inglesa, no me importa mucho, porque al final, se trata de disfrutar y de amar a los personajes (o no). La verdad es que son historias completamente diferentes que solo tienen en común el hecho de que las chicas necesitan casarse. A mí, en lo particular, me gustó bastante. Me llegó a preocupar que se volviera un culebrón y no fue así. Tuvo un excelente final para ser una primera temporada, y estoy esperando las siguientes para ver como va evolucionando esta historia. Siento que vamos a tener mucho para ver en el futuro.
Si a ustedes, como a mí, les gusta el romanticismo, la moda y las costumbres de esa época, van a disfrutarla bastante. Tiene muy buenos personajes y algunas historias secundarias que mejoran la trama. Les comparto el tráiler a ver si se les antoja. Saludos, y nos seguimos leyendo por acá.

Although I know that Bridgertone already exists, and that this one may evoke (or copy) the success of the English series, I don't really care, because in the end, it's all about enjoying and loving the characters (or not). The truth is that they are completely different stories that only have in common the fact that the girls need to get married. I, in particular, liked it a lot. I was worried that it would turn into a soap opera, but it didn't. It had an excellent ending for a soap opera. It had an splendid ending for a first season, and I'm looking forward to the next seasons to see how this story evolves. I feel like we're going to have a lot to watch in the future.If you, like me, like the romance, fashion and customs of that era, you are going to enjoy it quite a bit.
