Con esta premisa, comenzamos con el desarrollo, pues algo que debería ser placentero se convierte en la peor pesadilla para una madre. Una historia llena de suspenso, misterio, acción, terror y mucho drama. El nuevo trabajo del director de Happy Death Day nos deja con esa intriga que marca huella dentro de sus obras. La lucha por la supervivencia, la ansiedad por perder el control y la desesperación por hallar una solución inmediata, se convierten en el tema principal del film que se clava firmemente en nuestras mentes como espectadores.

Todo salía de maravilla en la cita hasta que Violet comenzó a recibir extraños mensajes con un sentido perturbador de alguien desconocido. Intrigada, intenta averiguar de quien se trata, hasta que la persona desconocida le pide a Violet que revise una de las cámaras de seguridad dentro de su casa, con la cual ella pudo divisar con horror a un hombre encapuchado y armado posando para la cámara de la cocina.
Aterrada por la seguridad de su hermana y su hijo, Violet intenta alertar sobre el intruso, pero la persona desconocida le advierte que no lo haga y que continúe con su cita como si nada mientras le da instrucciones. Ahora, Violet deberá salvar a su familia sin ponerlos en peligro, al mismo tiempo que debe continuar su cita con Henry sin levantar sospechas.
Muchas personas podrán percibir en Drop, al principio, una película monótona y poco original, pero eso sería solo juzgar la portada. Las secuencias en el acto argumental fueron bastante entretenidas y creativas, conservándome expectante e intrigado de lo que sucedería después. Todo fue una mezcla de sabores que me mantuvieron pegado a la pantalla esperando con ansiedad el climax.
La actuación de Meghann Fahy fue el pilar más sólido que sostuvo a la perfección la historia, el desarrollo del personaje y todo lo que aporta, lo convierten en la mezcla perfecta para hacerla entrañable. Desde el comienzo de la película, nos hicieron creer que estábamos viendo una secuencia atemporal de la historia; revelándonos desde el principio lo que sucedería más adelante, pero dicha suposición fue deshecha al conocer el verdadero propósito de ese fragmento. No puedo revelar mucho, solo diré que es muy relevante para la historia y para entender mejor ese aspecto psicológico de Violet.
La fotografía y la música lo fueron todo, algo que me encanta de estos thrillers de suspenso, es como la banda sonora se mezcla armoniosamente con los planos fotográficos, representando las emociones del momento y dándonos un exquisito manjar de tensión. Si bien, la película falla en algunos aspectos irreales dentro de la configuración de su historia, lo cierto es que, en mi caso, dichas cualidades me parecieron bastante buenas y entretenidas. Pueden parecerte muy absurdos, quizás hasta muy irónicos, pero doy por sentado que esas particularidades me mantuvieron juicioso hasta el final del film.
En los thrillers de suspenso, rara vez se ve algo de humor y romance; especialmente en situaciones tan pesadas como en el arco argumental de esta historia, pero esto es algo muy característico en los films de Landon, donde te da a entender que puedes estar pasando la situación más terrorífica de tu vida, pero siempre puedes hallar el lado alegre o doloroso de las cosas.
Drop es un film que destruyó todos los prejuicios que tenía sobre ella; más que todo por su historia que era más que absurda, lo cierto es que estuvo creativamente bien organizada para dejarme con la intriga y el suspenso latente. Tampoco se debe calificar como una de esas historias convencionales sobre superación de traumas personales, sino como un escenario de acción, en donde los personajes son sometidos a realizar cosas que jamás harían, y que, a lo largo del film, vemos como la protagonista va evolucionando volviéndose más sagaz. Violet Gates (Meghann Fahy) is a widowed psychologist who agrees to go on a first date with a man she met on an app. To make the meeting happen, she asks her sister, Jen (Violett Beane), to take care of her son, Toby (Jacob Robinson), in the meantime. Everything seemed to go well, Violet meets her date: Henry (Brandon Sklenar), a handsome and interesting man with whom Violet seems to establish good chemistry.
Everything was going great on the date until Violet started receiving strange messages with a disturbing meaning from someone unknown. Intrigued, she tries to find out who it is, until the unknown person asks Violet to check one of the security cameras inside her home, with which she was able to make out, to her horror, a hooded, armed man posing for the camera in the kitchen.
Terrified for the safety of her sister and son, Violet attempts to alert the intruder, but the unknown person warns her not to do so and to continue with her date as usual while giving her instructions. Now, Violet must save her family without endangering them, while continuing her date with Henry without arousing suspicion.
Many people may perceive Drop, at first, as a drab and unoriginal film, but that would only be judging the cover. The sequences in the plot were quite entertaining and creative, keeping me expectant and intrigued as to what would happen next. It was all a mix of flavors that kept me glued to the screen, anxiously awaiting the climax.
Meghann Fahy's performance was the most solid pillar that held the story perfectly; the character development and everything she brings to the table made it the perfect mix to make it endearing. From the beginning of the film, we were led to believe that we were watching a timeless sequence of the story, revealing to us early on what would happen later on, but that assumption was undone upon learning the true purpose of that fragment. I can't reveal too much, I'll just say that it is very relevant to the story, and to better understand the psychological aspect of Violet.
The cinematography and music were everything. Something I love about these suspense thrillers is how the soundtrack blends harmoniously with the photographic shots, representing the emotions of the moment and giving us an exquisite delicacy of tension. Although the film fails in some unrealistic aspects within the configuration of its story, the truth is that, in my case, I found these qualities to be quite good and entertaining. They may seem very absurd to you, perhaps even very ironic, but I take it for granted that those particularities kept me judicious until the end of the film.
In suspense thrillers, you rarely see some humor and romance; especially in such heavy situations as in the plot arc of this story, but this is something very characteristic in Landon's films, where he gives you to understand that you may be going through the most terrifying situation of your life, but you can always find the joyful or painful side of things.
Drop is a film that destroyed all the prejudices I had about it; mostly because of its story, which was more than absurd, the truth is that it was creatively well organized to leave me with the intrigue and suspense latent. Nor should it be classified as one of those conventional stories about overcoming personal traumas, but as a scenario of action, where the characters are subjected to doing things they would never do, and, throughout the film, we see how the protagonist is evolving, becoming more shrewd.
