Hey, how's it going?
I want to share with you my latest creation, a drawing I made with a lot of dedication for the X contest.
These kinds of challenges always push me to explore new ideas and step out of my comfort zone and this one definitely did! Everything was super fast paced, and the last drawing I made for the contest was miles away from my usual style, but you'll see that later. For now, let’s focus on the idea behind
this one.
The challenge was simple: an emoji for each participant, with the theme being dreams. It had to be surreal and all that. Sounds fine, right? But for me, I got the parrot emoji, which I couldn't change or "interpret." The creator of the challenge liked the twists, as I was told haha. It had to be something that was easily recognizable, with the same colors and everything.
The final piece had to be minted and put up for auction. It met the deadline, got sold, and later resold in the secondary market. I made a video for this drawing, but it's on X, and for reasons you probably know, I can’t show it here. But you can easily find it on my profile, I think.
I made the sketch for this drawing in my sketchbook and then transferred it to my PC. I worked on it in Corel Painter and Photoshop, with about a 90%/10% split since I spent way more time in Corel. I did the file in Ps and then just opened it in Corel to start working right over the sketch.
You know me, I don’t work with too many layers. I only had 2, and as I liked things, I kept collapsing them with the sketch. But to avoid losing the whole sketch, I lowered the opacity of the layer on top at the beginning. That’s how I worked until I didn’t need the sketch anymore, then I just worked on a single layer.
Even though I no longer needed the sketch, I opened it on the side for reference, since I’d lose some details as I progressed. With the same brush, I slowly started detailing things with the brush I had selected at the time, which had some texture.
I worked on everything at once since I didn’t have much time to focus on details first. This helped a lot; in the previous step, I’d worked a little on the face but nothing too detailed. Now, little by little, I started detailing more, including the skin and everything else.
The drawing had to have surreal elements to match the dreamlike theme, so in my idea and sketch, I added flowers with eyes and some fish, but you’ll see that later. I also placed the moon behind her hair, and to add something more, I had her hair fall over the moon, but not in the usual way.
As I kept going, things started looking better! I added the missing fish, kept refining the hair, added the clocks, and all those tiny details. But I still had a lot to do...

I did some extra work in Ps. Funny thing the parrot I drew was hidden in a layer I forgot to turn on when saving the process steps, so it only showed up in the video. Pooooof! 😅You can actually see the chaos that little bird caused me, haha. Besides those PS adjustments, there was still a lot more to polish. Oh! > Quoteand at the top of the piece, the girl's surrounded by her nightmares.
-.-
Thank you very much for taking the time to view my work.
