Hypersight is called the machine that can detect the tumor to be treated and irradiate it with extreme precision in as little as six seconds, safeguarding healthy tissues: a technology that makes it possible to treat many solid tumors, in the early or metastatic stage, such as prostate, lung, pancreatic, and liver.
It has been installed in the Department of Advanced Oncology Radiotherapy at IRCCS Sacro Cuore Don Calabria in Negrar, in the province of Verona. A “super eye” that together with Ethos, an artificial intelligence-driven radiotherapy machine, is able to treat tumors adaptively, that is, able to recalculate a new treatment plan at each session, based on changes in the tumor mass and anatomical changes that may occur during treatment. This equipment, for the first time in Italy and among the few centers in the world, is capable of capturing images of the tumor to be treated with exceptional quality and perfectly locating the tumor site acting in a shorter time and helping to reduce the duration and number of sessions. This also cuts down waiting lists for all solid, early-stage and metastatic cancers.
“Modern technology makes it possible to treat many tumors in an average of five painless, minute-long sessions,” explains Prof. Filippo Alongi director of the department. “Above all, adaptive and ultra-precision radiotherapy can also be used in case of tumor recurrence, re-intervening in patients who have already undergone previous radiotherapy, who today would have no other treatment options.” .
